AI is helping Netflix serve up higher quality content to users with weaker Web connections, Quartz reports. “Annoying pauses in your streaming movies are going to become less common, thanks to a new trick Netflix is rolling out,” it writes. “It’s using artificial intelligence techniques to analyze each shot in a video and compress it without affecting the image quality, thus reducing the amount of data it uses.”

Microsoft this week is rolling out the Xbox Live Creator's Program. “Now, hobbyist developers will have a platform for publishing their wares on the console,” Engadget reports. “So, essentially, this is replicating what Microsoft did with self-published indies on the Xbox 360: relegating them to a cordoned off section within the store and limiting their visibility.”

Spotify is readying a “lossless” audio version of its streaming service, The Verge reports, citing sources. “The offering, which is currently called Spotify Hi-Fi, will offer lossless CD-quality audio to users -- similar to what Tidal offers in its Hi-Fi service,” it writes. “The streaming service began running a test on a small group of users yesterday.”
