• Is Amazon Expanding 'Prime Video' Too Quickly
    The recent rollout of Amazon’s Prime Video service across more than 200 territories has not been without its hiccups. “In several countries looked at by Variety, the company hasn’t even bothered to translate the PrimeVideo.com website’s interface from English into the local language,” the trade publication reports. “And its content offerings seem scant and lacking in local flavor.” As such, “Amazon’s strategy appears to be a two-step process: first establish a global footprint, then go back and build out more tailored platforms in key new markets.”

    Disney is giving Hulu exclusive subscription streaming rights to movies like “Pocahontas,” “Mulan,” and many others. “Altogether, Hulu is licensing 56 movies from Disney, which makes it the biggest movie licensing deal for the service to date,” Variety reports. “However, it’s worth noting that none of these flicks are new,” it adds. “Competitor Netflix struck a multi-year deal with Disney in 2012, and has been getting new theatrical releases from the Mouse on an exclusive basis for a few months now.”

    Chinese Web giant Baidu is preparing a $5 billion IPO for its video-streaming site iQiyi.com. “Baidu is considering listing iQiyi in either Hong Kong or the U.S. next year,” The Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources. “The company is planning to issue a convertible bond or similar instrument to raise funds from investors before the IPO.”
