BMW, Carvana Reveal Super Bowl Plans

BMW is the latest automaker to release a teaser of its Super Bowl spot, which features Arnold Schwarzenegger as Zeus, Greek god of lightning.

The 30-second teaser,  “Something Electric is Brewing,” was created by its AOR, Goodby Silverstein & Partners. As it turns out, Schwarzenegger was teasing his involvement in the spot (not an upcoming movie) via an Instagram post last week.

The spot shows a hapless coffee barista mispronouncing Zeus’ name, which leaves the fully costumed and very serious Schwarzenegger less than amused.

In the 60-second game day spot, the actor/politician will be joined by actor Salma Hayek Pinault, portraying Hera.

The automaker has not revealed which all-electric BMW vehicle will be featured, but given that it is accepting pre-orders on its website for the i4 and iX, those are likely bets.

The automaker was last in the Super Bowl seven years ago with a spot featuring its then-new electric car, the BMW i3.

Nissan and Kia revealed Super Bowl teasers on Monday. General Motors and Toyota have both confirmed Super Bowl spots without offering any details.

Stellantis, which has bought multiple spots in recent years, has not yet confirmed its intentions, but often doesn’t until right before game day. Hyundai and Audi have both said they will sit out this year.

Used vehicle online retailer Carvana revealed its 30-second spot, which features an “Oversharing Mom” who can’t stop talking about her positive car-buying experience. The ad, which marks the brand’s debut in the Big Game, was created in-house.

Vroom, another online used-vehicle retailer, revealed its Super Bowl ad “Flake the Musical” on Jan. 20. The 30-second spot, which makes its second consecutive appearance in the game, was created by the company's AOR, Anomaly.
