Klaviyo Acquires Napkin.io, Code Development Firm

Klaviyo, a platform that uses data to drive email, SMS and other ecommerce messaging, has made its first acquisition -- Napkin.io, a firm that enables developers to write and deploy code directly on a browser. Terms were not disclosed.

The news comes just a few months after Shopify made a reported strategic investment of $100 million in Klaviyo.

Nick Sypteras, who founded Napkin.io in January 2021, will join the Klaviyo team and report to Ezra Freedman, vice president of data science at Klaviyo.

Sypteras says “Napkin.io was founded on the premise that we need a more powerful way to turn an idea into running code quickly with no set up, no dependencies and no slog.”

Once live, code can be set to run on a schedule, or deployed as an API endpoint.  Klaviyo users can “launch a campaign in an hour and go from an idea in the shower to money in the bank in the same day,” Sypteras adds.

Ed Hallen, co-founder and chief product officer of Klaviyo, says a few members of the team discovered Napkin.io last year, and were impressed with its software, user interface and feature set.

This has been a busy year for Klaviyo. As part of the Shopify deal, it was chosen as the recommended email partner for Shopify Plus.

Also in August, Searchspring launched an email recommendation tool, working with Klaviyo. And payment platform Sezzle teamed up with Klaviyo to help brands recover abandoned carts with a buy now, pay later offering.
