Gen Z Fastest To Check Text Notifications: Study

Marketers seeking to reach consumers on their call phones via texts or other means enjoy one major advantage: Habit.

Americans check their phones an average of 144 times per day, and almost 88.6%% do so within the first 10 minutes of waking up in the morning, according to a study by Reviews.org.

Moreover, 75% check within five minutes of receiving a notification.

However, this varies by generation, with Gen Z fastest at checking within five minutes of receiving a notification:

  • Gen Z — 80.41%
  • Gen X — 75.68%
  • Boomers — 74.57%
  • Millennials — 73.40%

Perhaps because they are most likely to upgrade their phones (58.5%, versus 43.26% for Boomers), Gen Z is least willing to endanger themselves to prevent loss of or damage to a cell phone:

  • Boomers — 95.04%
  • Gen X — 89.25%
  • Millennials — 77.38%
  • Gen Z — 71.43%

In general, 60% sleep with their cell phones, while 57% consider themselves addicted to them, 66% check them during meals and 75% in the bathroom.

On a positive safety note, only 27.10%, check their phones while driving, down from 41.30% last year.

Reviews.org surveyed 1,000 U.S. consumers.
