Online Shopping Driven By Convenience More Than Health: Study

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, safety was not the main reason consumers chose to shop online during Thanksgiving weekend, according to a study by ICSC.

The main reason -- convenience -- was cited by 57%. Health/safety was specified by 49%, and 45% wanted to take advantage of promotions. Of all consumers, 86% of consumers planned to shop online.

And while ecommerce received all the buzz, 92% of holiday shoppers, totaling 183 million consumers, expected to spend at a brick-and-mortar store. Also, 63% believed that the holiday was just as important as it has been in the past regardless of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Overall, 209 million adults expected to spend money during the weekend.

ICSC surveyed 1,003 U.S. consumers on November 27.
