Snapchat+ Adds 1M More Subscribers, Unveils New Features

Snapchat+ -- Snapchat Inc.'s premium subscription option -- has reached four million global users, which is about one million more users than the social media platform announced in April. The company also unveiled two new features subscribers will see in the coming months.

Snapchat+, which costs $3.99 per month, originally launched in June 2022. Two months in, the service had amasses one million subscribers. By February, the company counted two million, and now, one year out, four million paying users.

While the announcement shows steady growth, the subscriber base still only makes up around 1% of the AR-forward social-messaging app's total users, which top out around 375 million.

That being said, the service is attracting more users than the Twitter Blue subscription service, which hasn’t yet reached the one million marker. Meta Verified––Meta's paid service for Instagram and Facebook -- is still rolling out globally, although analysts at Bank of America believe that by the end of the year, up to 12 million accounts may be registered.

Snapchat+ users have already received exclusive features like an AI-powered chatbot called “My AI.” The feature eventually became free to all users, but subscribers now have exclusive access to new generative AI features, in which the chatbot replies with an image based on the conversation they are having, or creates profile backgrounds.

Subscribers also have access to custom notification sounds, story expiration controls and a plan gifting option.

The latest exclusive subscriber features include “Expressive Chat Messages,” which let users send messages in bigger font sizes, along with an upcoming feature called “Custom Chat Colors” that invites users to pick the color their name appears as in chats.
