That was the start conclusion of Newsworks executive chairman Tracy De Groose, speaking to the Society of Editors annual conference yesterday, "Press Gazette" reports. Selling advertising on open platforms dominated by tech giants has seen content sold as an "amorphous mass," she concluded.

An accompany video shows a person tapping a door knocker with a dragon's face, prompting the door to be opened and a message offering tomorrow's date -- the day the John Lewis ad is due to debut.

Not even a boost from "Love Island" and more recently, the Rugby World Cup, are enough to prevent a stagnant television market leading to an advertising revenue dip of 2% this year. That is the prediction from the broadcaster, "The Times" reports, as it revealed that a rugby 1% uptick in revenue is only likely to turn a 3% contraction into 2%.

"The Telegraph" has taken down the paywall on its website to offer the public free access today and until 7am tomorrow. "Press Gazette" reveals that the move is a celebration of the site's 25th birthday.

Mel B has clarified why she reacted adversely to a Tesco ad featuring an image of her and a tag line referencing a Spice Girls hit. "Sky News" reveals that the singer was not complaining about her image being used, but rather that she thought the branding for the Women's Aid charity would be bigger. She explains that she gave permission for the campaign in return for a donation to the charity.
