Vidyard CEO Litt says content marketing turning to video more because now, key buyers are becoming increasingly influenced by video, marketers want more feedback on content, and brand managers are pressuring agencies to prove ROI.

People trust Website ads more than they used to, according to a global Nielsen survey. They don't yet trust ads on social networks, or mobile display ads. Online banner ads are not much trusted either. TV ads top the conversion tree.

Three ad tech companies that went public this year -- Marin Software, Tremor Video and YuMe -- filed confidential pre-IPO papers with the SEC, an advantage of the new Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act that lets firms with less than $1B in annual revenue to secretly submit filings for review. Twitter just did it, too.

Sony announced its Smart Stick which seems to be aimed at Google's Chromecast, but, possibly, better.  But it will cost $115, and Chromecast costs $35, so that could pose a problem. 

Hulu says it has agreed to a non-exclusive, multi-year deal with BBC Worldwide North America that will allow it to offer BBC content to its subscribers. Financial terms were not disclosed.

An offline viewing option will kick in in November, and will let you watch videos without a Web connection for up to 48 hours--with pre-roll, of course.

Despite the growth of legal channels for watching entertainment online, the volume of pirated movies, TV shows, music, books and video games online continues to skyrocket. The amount of bandwidth used for copyright infringement  has grown nearly 160% since November 2011, accounting for 24% of total Internet bandwidth, according to a study from NetNames, the British brand protection firm.

Goldman Sachs' Heather Bellini reiterated a Buy rating on shares of Facebook (FB), while raising her price target to $52 from $46, writing that Facebook has a “significant opportunity” in advertisinginside of online video and television, which are expected to represent a combined $70 billion in advertising dollars next year.

Online advertisers always swant proof that the ads they pay for are actually viewed. Now they are moving past completion and click-through rates to other engagement metrics like exposure time.

Until recently, they were rivals. But on September 10th Virgin Media, a British television company, said that it would make Netflix, an online-video service, available to 1.7m of its customers through their set-top boxes by the end of the year. For the first time Netflix subscribers will have access to the service through pay-TV.
