• Report: Hulu Stream Service For $39.99
    Techcrunch says Hulu's new streaming service will be priced at $39.99 a month which makes good on CEO Mike Hopkins's pledge to price the new service at less than $40 (he said nothing about taxes). Also, that's about the price point for the other live streamers.  When will it debut? Well, it's April 14 now and Hulu presents at NewFronts on May 3. 
  • YouTube TV Is Downright Downloadable
    In its first week available to the public in the nation's four largest TV markets and the San Francisco area (the sixth largest), 150,000 have downloaded the free-for-a-month YouTube TV app. This Tubefilter article suggests that's a good start. 
  • Studio71 Virtually Bows Out Of NewFronts
    Studio71 was supposed to present on May 9 at noon. Instead, it plans a virtual presentation from some of its talent. (Put that on your virtual calendar.) It's the latest of several similar cancellations.
  • Jonathan Carson New President At Mic
    Youth-aimed Mic has hired Jonathan Carson, a former exec at Vevo and Nielsen Digital,  as its first president. He has served as an advisor for the last nine months and participated in creating Mic's new plan to start nine vertical channels aimed at different audience interests. Video now accounts for 75% of Mic's daily views.  .
  • Pewdiepie Crowdsources New Twitch Channel
    Felix Kjellberg's Pewdiepie, the biggest thing on YouTube, has crowdsourced a new outlet called Netglow on the Amazon-owned gaming service Twitch. He'll produce a show at 11 a.m. on Sundays called Best Club.

    Roku TVs--the ones that come pre-installed in some smart TVs--will start suggesting other things you might want to watch, based on automatic content recognition capability. "More Ways to Watch” depends on opting in.  
  • Comcast Readying Video Platform For NBCU Offerings
    Comcast is reportedly readying an online video service, which will feature the best programming that its NBCUniversal TV unit has to offer. Set to debut in a year or two, the offering will be positioned “to compete with rivals Netflix Inc. and CBS Corp.,” Bloomberg writes, citing sources. “The service could help Comcast continue to adapt to a TV industry that has transformed before its eyes.”

    Hoping to entice current GoPro users to update, it is offering from $50 to $100 for current owners to upgrade to its Hero 5 Session or Hero5 Black which offer better microphones and more integrated waterproof features.
  • Virtual Reality A $75B Business By 2021?
    VR revenues could soar to $75 billion by 2021, some of it coming from more business uses--like real estate, construction and education--according to Greenlight Insights. That's up from $7.17 billion, which is what Greenlight expects by the end of this year.
