  • Good Time To Revisit Google Stock
Google's stock has dropped below $400. So it's a good time to revisit the company's valuation, according to Silicon Alley Insider's Henry Blodget. Google's enterprise value is about $125 billion and the company will generate about $4.5 billion of free cash flow this year. Google is therefore trading at about 27X current free cash flow. This multiple is still on the high side, but it is far more reasonable than Google's valuation than anytime in the last few years, Blodget said, adding that a fair multiple for Google is about 20X-25X ($300-$375), and we're finally close to that range. • Cloud Computing Not All It's Cracked Up To Be
Cloud computing--where programs are delivered over the internet as you need it, rather than drawn from a desktop computer--has gained currency in recent years and is backed by large internet and technology companies including Google, Microsoft and Amazon. But Richard Stallman, founder of the New York-based Free Software Foundation and creator of the computer operating system GNU, said that cloud computing was simply a trap aimed at forcing more people to buy into locked, proprietary systems that would cost them more and more over time. "It's stupidity. It's worse than stupidity: it's a marketing hype campaign," he told The Guardian."Somebody …
  • Microsoft's Mehdi Gets A New Job
Longtime Microsoft exec Yusuf Mehdi is taking over a big part of Microsoft's online services portfolio--including marketing, online audience business development and product management for MSN and the search properties, reports Kara Swisher. But the company still needs to name an overall digital head for these online properties, which has been promised by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer since the departure of Kevin Johnson in late July. Mehdi, previously the SVP for strategic partnerships under Johnson, is now part of a team that includes Brian McAndrews, the SVP for the advertiser and publisher solutions group, and Satya Nadella, the SVP who …
  • IGA Adds Activision To Stable
New York-based IGA Worldwide is adding Activision to its stable, announcing another exclusive PlayStation 3 ad partnership. "Guitar Hero: World Tour," the next living room rock star refresh slated for release Oct. 26, will be the first Activision title to get pumped full of integrated ads under the deal. The company first made headlines in June when it announced it would be the exclusive in-game ad provider for Electronic Arts' PS3 games. Locking up the two largest videogame publishers could be a huge advantage for IGA, which depends on the reach of its partners' catalogs to seal advertising buys, according …
  • Survey: Apple Not So Hot?
A survey that RBC Capital conducted with Changewave suggests that Apple sales are cooling off. As a result of the survey, RBC Capital analyst Mike Abramsky downgraded his Apple rating on Monday, helping spark the sharpest sell-off in the company's shares in eight years. RBC's version of the survey showed that the percentage of technology consumers who plan to buy a Mac in the next 90 days had dropped from 34% in August to 29% in September, the biggest such decline in more than two years. ChangeWave's version, which was released Monday, focused on corporate purchase plans. It's based on …
