• Trends At The National Restaurant Association Show
    Peter Backman, managing director of London-based Horizons, says Millennials and fast casual were the themes at the NRA show this year. "While Millennials aren't the only people attracted to Fast Casual outlets, they are hugely influential in their emergence," he says in his new report, accessible here. "Overall the US foodservice sector is forecast to grow at a shade under 2% in real terms in 2015," he writes. "Fast Casual - is a clear winner, it is clear to everyone where they should be focusing their attention."
  • GoDaddy Seeks Agency
    Web hosting company GoDaddy is looking for a global agency. The company, which has used racy ads in the Super Bowl to make a name for itself, raised $460 million in an IPO last month, and last week issued a request for proposals for a global brand agency. Barton F. Graf 9000 is currently GoDaddy's agency of record for the U.S. and Canada.
  • McDonald's CEO Defends Employee Pay Increase
    McDonald's CEO Steve Easterbrook defended the company's recent employee pay increase at the company's annual meeting, amid protests by thousands of labor activists outside its Oak Brook, Ill., headquarters. He said he was proud that McDonald's stated earlier this year that it would raise hourly pay at its company-owned U.S. locations to $1 above the local minimum wage. Activists pushed the company to end its relationship with the National Restaurant Association, which lobbied against the minimum wage.
  • Arena's Eye Lightbulbs And Fixtures For Cost Cutting
    Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center, home of basketball's 76ers and hockey's Flyers, switched to LED lighting this season, spending $473,000 on a system that it expects to cut energy bills by $144,000 a year. Eight other venues used by the four major U.S. sports leagues use LED, but all future ones will, according to National Basketball Association's EVP of operations and technology Steve Hellmuth.

    KFC tried a rechargeable Bluetooth keyboard, a piece of paper that arrives with your tray of fast food, connects to your smartphone, and lets you text with sticky fingers without messing up your screen. The KFC Tray Typer was part of a KFC campaign in Germany. Last year in Japan, KFC launched a keyboard, mouse, and USB stick combo - all in the shape of pieces of fried chicken.

    Next year, General Motors will introduce the SuperDrive system on the new Cadillac CT6 sedan. Capable of hands-free freeway motoring, it will help usher in an era of autonomous driving that proponents - including GM - believe will revolutionize the transportation industry. But a new study, "Disruptive Mobility," produced by Brian Johnson, a Barclays automotive analyst, warns that self-driving vehicles could lead to a sharp drop in U.S. car sales in the years ahead.
  • Protesters Converge At McDonald's Shareholder Meeting
    Steve Easterbrook has pledged to make McD's progressive, but the challenges were on display at the company's shareholder meeting in Oak Brook, Ill., in the form of a few thousand workers and other groups, marching with demands. The workers were protesting for $15 per hour minimum wage. Another group, the Toxic Taters Coalition, wants to raise awareness about the levels of pesticides used on potatoes that McDonald's buys. And there are more.

    German auto maker Audi is out with its newest bicycle. The Audi Sport Racing Bike's carbon fiber frame, made by the Japanese company Toray, weighs only 1.74 pounds. That's less than a Macbook Air. With wheels and everything else, it's 12.78 pounds. The price? A mere $19,450. You could buy a car for that.

As part of the campaign for the new software, she wants to imbue Microsoft with qualities one doesn't typically associate with the company: transparency, honesty, and humanity. M:United, the Microsoft arm of McCann is working on the new campaign for Microsoft.
  • Android Wear Update Brings WiFi To Some Smartwatches
    The latest version of Android Wear that Google promised back in April is arriving finally, and it includes activation of dormant WiFi chips in the LG Watch Urbane, Moto 360, Sony Smartwatch 3 and the Samsung Gear Live. The new OS also lets people pair their phones with more than one of their wearables.
