• Hospitality, Retail Industries Collaborate
    Inside a Brooklyn warehouse that has been converted to office and design space are the seeds of a new type of collaboration between the hospitality and retailing industries. There, West Elm, a division of Williams-Sonoma that sells modern furniture and accessories online and in nearly 90 stores nationwide, has created model hotel rooms. Next year, it expects to begin opening boutique hotels in five cities.

    The world's largest burger chain wants to avoid the long lines and wait times that plagued the world's largest coffee chain, Starbucks, by using technology and alternatives like curbside pickup to better prepare for the expected demand its new system could generate.   • HHGregg Shuttering 88 Stores, Laying Off 1,500
    Struggling appliance and electronics retailer HHGregg is planning to close 88 of its weakest stores as part of an effort to stay afloat. The Indianapolis-based company announced it would shutter stores in 15 states and close three distribution centers. The closings will be completed by mid-April and result in about 1,500 layoffs. HHGregg has about 5,000 employees.
  • Costco Raising Membership Fees In June
    Costco customers will start paying more to shop the warehouse club this summer. Annual fees for the basic gold star and business memberships will be $60, up from $55, as of June 1, the Issaquah, Wash.-based warehouse club said in a news release. An executive membership fee will cost $120, up from $110. UBS analysts have been predicting the fee hike since last year.

The athletic brand launched a plus-size clothing line with new sizes 1X through 3X on more than 200 products, including athletic shirts, pants, shorts and jackets. New sports bras will go up to size 38E.
  • Hostess Enters Hot Beverage Category With Twinkies Cappuccino
    Hostess Brands, in partnership with Kerry Convenience, has introduced Twinkies Cappuccino for the convenience store channel. Kerry will manufacture and distribute the new products under the Hostess brand. The cappuccino is inspired by Hostess' classic Twinkie and features a combination of milk, sponge cake flavor and a hint of coffee.
  • PepsiCo's 1893 Premium Cola Brand Adds Two New Flavors
    PepsiCo is adding Citrus Cola and Black Currant Cola varieties to its 1893 line of craft sodas, which the company aims to promote with a new integrated marketing campaign. The launch will include integrated marketing with a national ad on TV and social media platforms this spring, including some elements with a cocktail mixer focus.
