Wal-Mart said Wednesday that it would give away Google Home devices to the first 250 shoppers to sign up for its Grocery Pickup service in Seattle, where the company's 995th to 1,000th U.S. stores to offer the service are going live this week. Walmart said it would celebrate its 1,000th Grocery Pickup opening elsewhere by providing customers nationwide with a $5 promotion code.

CVS will begin putting vending kiosks in high-traffic areas like airports, bus terminals, and college campuses designed for customers on the move. The machines will be stocked with items like deodorant, toothpaste, and contact solution for the forgetful traveler, along with healthy snacks and other on-the-go necessities like batteries, lint rollers, and stain removers. The kiosks will have touch screens and carry over 70 products.

Ohio's lawsuit against opioid maker Purdue Pharma should be thrown out because it runs afoul of federal drug regulations and doesn't show the company's Oxycontin painkiller marketing caused specific harm, according to a court filing. Purdue filed its response Friday to Attorney General Mike DeWine's May suit accusing the pharma firm and four others of using misleading marketing to dupe doctors into over-prescribing opioids.

Toys "R" Us Inc. has retained lawyers from Kirkland & Ellis LLP to help restructure $400 million in debt due next year, a person familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal, the latest move by the toy chain as it struggles with growing online competition. The Wayne, N.J.-based retailer has been burdened with debt since private-equity owners Bain Capital, KKR & Co. and Vornado Realty Trust took it private in 2005 for $6.6 billion.

Gap Inc. will close roughly 200 poorly performing Gap and Banana Republic stores in the next three years. The move is part of the retailer's plan to zero in on its brands that are showing the most promise, while paring back those that are struggling in order to boost growth. While it sheds dozens of Gap and Banana Republic locations, the company will open roughly 270 new Old Navy and Athleta stores.
