• Victoria's Secret Hires Transgender Model
    Victoria’s Secret has hired its first transgender model, Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio. She posted behind-the-scenes photos at a shoot for the lingerie brand’s Pink line on her Instagram account. “The hire has been a long time coming,” according to SF Gate. “Ed Razek, the company’s chief marketing officer, came under fire last year for comments he made regarding including trans models in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show.”  
  • Walmart Has No Plans To Limit Guns, Ammo
    Despite the Aug. 3 shooting that left 22 dead at one of its El Paso, Texas stores, Walmart says it has no plans to stop selling guns or ammunition, or change any other retail or security practice. “Our focus has always been on being a responsible seller of firearms,” company spokesman Randy Hargrove told Bloomberg. “We go beyond federal law requiring all customers to pass a background check before purchasing any firearm.”
  • The Quest For Non-Plant-Based Vegan 'Dairy'
    While plant-based products like almond milk grow in popularity, researchers at several start-up companies are looking into what could be  "a whole new category of food": cow-free dairy, according to The New York Times. Companies like New Culture have begun producing casein and whey protein -- ingredients that makes dairy taste like dairy -- in the lab.
  • Canada Goose Changes Marketing Clams About Animal Sourcing
    Coat company Canada Goose -- "which for more than a year has faced a probe by the Federal Trade Commission over allegations of false advertising -- has made sweeping changes to its website and other marketing materials about its animal sourcing standards," according to the New York Post. Still, the issue remains murky, since Canada Goose claims "The changes to our website were not made at the behest of the FTC," which has since closed its probe. And PETA remains dissatisfied with the company.
  • Boston Investment Firm Buys Stonewall Kitchen
    Stonewall Kitchen, "famous for its jams, condiments and other specialty food items," has been sold to Boston investment firm Audax Private Equity, according to PressHerald. Purchase price was not disclosed.

  • Container Store To Launch Closets-Only Outlet
    The Container Store is never coming out of the closet. Instead, the home storage and organization products retailer is launching a new format, The Container Store Custom Closets, dedicated to you-know-what, with "more than 65 closet displays that cover every area of the home, including pantry, garage, office and more, along with a selection of complementary organization products needed to provide a full solution," according to Chain Store Age. First one is in Los Angeles, with another set to open in Dallas by the end of 2019.
