    Emirates is featuring actor Chris Hemsworth in a campaign (filmed in 2019) to promote Expo 2020 Dubai, which is being billed as the world’s greatest show. The spot, directed by two-time Oscar-winning director Robert Stromberg, features the actor walking through a computer-generated version of the futuristic Expo 2020 site. The event will run for six months starting Oct 1.
  • Anti-Crime Catchphrase Denied National Campaign
    The attacks on the World Trade Center yielded what is arguably “the most ubiquitous anti-crime statements present in modern-day America,” according to Gothamist. “There’s even a national ‘If You See Something Say Something Day’ on Sept. 25. That’s because, according to law enforcement experts, the reminder has been a key tool in the fight against crime in general and terrorism in particular.” Yet, the U.S. Department of Justice rejected an Ad Council pitch to create a national campaign based around the message.
  • Whole Foods To Employ Amazon Go Technology
    Amazon plans to introduce Just Walk Out cashier-less shopping at two Whole Foods Market locations in Washington D.C. and Sherman Oaks, California within the next year. “Amazon says it is hearing from shoppers across its grocery ecosystem that they want to skip the hassle, stress and pandemic-unfriendly crowding associated with checkout lanes,” per Progressive Grocer. “In addition to Amazon Go stores, Just Walk Out is currently available at several Amazon Fresh stores in the U.S. and the UK, and Amazon sells its Just Walk Out technology to third-party retailers.”
  • Impossible Foods Intros Faux-Chicken Nuggets
    Impossible Foods Inc.’s imitation chicken nuggets are being introduced at about 150 restaurants and will soon be in grocery stores later this month. Restaurants serving the nuggets include regional chains such as Fatburger and some Dog Haus locations. “By the end of the month, supermarkets including Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons and Safeway will sell the nuggets,” per Fortune. “More than 10,000 grocery stores will offer them by the end of the year.”
  • Walmart Opens U.S. Ghost Kitchen Location
    Walmart has opened its first virtual food court location at an upstate New York supercenter as part of a multistate U.S expansion. “The Ghost Kitchens service enables Walmart shoppers to select food and beverages from the menus of up to 25 national and regional restaurant and CPG food concepts and combine them into a single order,” per Supermarket News. “Customers place their orders via touchscreen kiosks and then receive a receipt via text, followed by another text when their order is ready, allowing them to shop while their order is prepared.”

    One month after her poetry reading at President Biden’s inauguration in January, Amanda Gorman told Vogue she had turned down about $17 million in various promotional opportunities. But the offers didn’t stop -- and this week she announced a deal with Estée Lauder which The New York Times calls “what may be one of the most multidimensional representation agreements in beauty history. As well as a swath of unexpected beneficiaries.”
  • NFL Foundation, Team Owners Donate Millions To Hurricane Relief Efforts
    The NFL Foundation is contributing $1 million to Hurricane Ida relief efforts, matching New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson's initial contribution to the Gulf Coast Renewal Fund. Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank also announced a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross and Greater New Orleans Foundation. Other teams making contributions include the Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers.

    Gap has acquired Drapr, a startup that uses 3D virtual try-on technology to help shoppers find clothing that suits their body type and style. “Now that Gap Inc. is integrating Drapr's technology into its digital customer experience, it joins other companies like Walmart and Snapchat that have acquired virtual-fitting tech startups, too,” per Retail Dive.
  • McDonald's Considers Closing Restaurant Interiors Again
    McDonald’s has instructed franchisees on steps to take to close indoor dining in locations heavily affected by the Delta variant of COVID-19. “McDonald's Corp. had temporarily closed indoor dining at nearly all U.S. locations in early 2020, but it reopened 70% by last month” and was planning to open nearly 100% by Labor Day, per Reuters.
