    College women's hoops star Maya Moore has signed a deal with Jordan, which makes her the first female basketball player ever to sign with the brand. Analysts said the deal could be worth $3 - $4 million per year.

    Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle ran in last year's ING New York City Marathon, boosting participation in Subway's "Commit to Fit" sweepstakes promotion. About 100,000 people registered. This year, the marathon runner for Subway will be Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno. Ohno will run the Nov. 6 race and serve as centerpiece of the "Commit to Fit" sweepstakes, which dangles gift cards up to $25,000. Tony Pace, the chief marketing officer at Subway, weighs in on the second iteration of the program and on sweepstakes as a marketing tactic.
  • General Mills Plans To Buy Controlling Interest In Yoplait
    General Mills is planning to buy controlling interest in France-based Yoplait for $1.15 billion. General Mills, which has held U.S. distribution rights to Yoplait since 1977, said it would buy 51% of the company's Yoplait operations and half of the entity that holds licensing rights to the name. Yoplait is the second-biggest yogurt brand worldwide after Danone. General Mills expects to close the deal this summer.

    General Motors is boosting production of the Chevrolet Volt. The automaker said it will make 1,000 more of the vehicles than it had planned to. And next year the automaker will build 60,000 of the cars at its Detroit-Hamtramck plant, up from the 45,000 initially targeted.

    A recent Consumer Reports survey found that as many as 7.5 million Facebook users in the U.S. are under 13, which violates Facebook's user policies. About 14.4 million are between the ages of 13 and 17, which is younger than the age of legal consent in most states. But Facebook's ad strategy exploits users' "likes" to disseminate ads that show the user's name and image. Facebook says its Teens Safety Tips page details its position and guidelines on teens and advertising. But the page doesn't mention parental consent for any activities, barely mentions age, and doesn't mention advertising …
  • El Pollo, Suffering Losses, Moves To Upgrade Image
    The Orange County, Calif.-based chain reported a $4.7 million loss in the first quarter because of a 2.5% drop in sales. The 400-store chain, majority-owned by N.Y.-based Trimaran Capital Partners, has hired a new ad agency and an architectural firm to improve the look of its stores.
