• Kroger Testing Grocery Pick-Up
    Kroger officials said Wednesday they are testing a grocery pick-up service in Cincinnati. Customers order groceries via the Internet, then drive up to pick up their order. Kroger bought pharmacy and grocery chain Harris Teeter for $2.5 billion in January and has been studying their "click and collect" program for months with plans to expand it elsewhere.
  • Timberland Banking On Big Online Growth
    Timberland detailed its plan to grow revenues by $1.4 billion during the next five years through e-commerce. The company said it would increase that channel 31% annually, adding $180 million in revenues over the next five years. Timberland also plans to expand its global retail store presence by adding 130 stores to its current base of approximately 230 stores. Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific are growth regions for the brand.

  • Nike Suspends Contract With Peterson
    Nike says it has suspended its contract with National Football League athlete Adrian Peterson over allegations of child abuse. Said the company in an emailed statement on Wednesday, "Nike in no way condones child abuse or domestic violence of any kind and we have shared our concerns with the NFL." The Minnesota Vikings suspended Peterson from all team activities until his child-abuse case is resolved, the franchise said on Wednesday.
  • Krispy Kreme To Sell Ghostbusters-Themed Doughnuts
    Krispy Kreme will sell two Ghostbusters-themed doughnuts in honor of the film's milestone starting Sept. 29 and running through Oct. 31. One doughnut will feature the Ghostbusters logo and a Slimer-inspired splatter of green icing, while the Stay Puft Marshmallow doughnut resembles that villain's face, complete with a sailor hat made of sugar. Both doughnuts contain white cream in the center.
  • Audi Gets Ok To Test Self-Driving Cars
    Audi is the first automaker to get a permit from the state of California to test self-driving cars on public roads. New state regulations took effect the same day specifically allowing such testing for the first time in California. Others testing self-driving technology include Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Ford, GM; many expect to have such vehicles on the road by 2020.

  • NBA Signs Up For Audio Alliance With Harman
    Calling it the league's first official partnership in the audio category, the NBA has signed a multi-year deal with Harman International, which will encompass the NBA, WNBA, D-League and USA Basketball, produce NBA player- and team-branded headphones and equipment. It gives Harman a presence at the 2015 All-Star Game in New York and the pre-season NBA Global Games beginning next month. All to be supported by multi-media marketing, promotions and a sweepstakes.
  • Spirit Airlines Goes Canary Yellow With New Livery
    Spirit Airlines is painting its planes in a bright yellow-all-over motif, broken only by the "Spirit" on the vertical stabilizer and fuselage and "Bare Fare" on the engine cowlings. The company says the yellow planes will act as a "flying billboard" and provide free publicity. Ben Baldanza, Spirit's CEO, said that in a sea of tarmac sameness, it will definitely stand out at gates. Six planes will wear the color by year's end. Aircraft on order will be shipped with the new livery.
  • Macy's Offers More Omnichannel Options
    Macy's Inc. is launching several strategies and technologies around stores, online and mobile touchpoints. That includes supporting the new Apple Pay mobile payment system. The company is also trying same-day delivery to people in eight major U.S. markets; testing new POS technology and customer service enhancements; and expanding its use of RFID to fashion categories.
