    Low-cost carriers are able to slash prices by keeping operating and labor costs low - flying newer and more fuel-efficient planes that can travel farther without refueling, executing shorter plane turnaround times to maximize flying time, avoiding expensive airports in big cities, hiring younger staff at lower pay and selling tickets directly to consumers online.
  • Chrysler Recalls Almost 300,000 Minivans With Air Bag Problem
    Fiat Chrysler is recalling almost 300,000 Dodge Grand Caravans because of a problem with their airbags inadvertently deploying. The automaker said there may have been eight "potentially related minor injuries, but no accidents" related to the defect. The recall impacts 2011-12 Dodge Grand Caravan minivans. About 209,000 of the vehicles are being recalled in the United States, with another 88,000 in Canada.
  • Skittles Goes All-White In Nod To LGBT Pride Celebrations
    Skittles has temporarily ditched its rainbow theme in favor of an all-white look in the United Kingdom and Germany in order to give LGBT pride celebrations "center stage." The company said that since rainbow colors are identified with both LGBT pride and Skittles, the candy maker chose one color during the celebrations "in order for Pride's rainbow to take center stage."

    Patrik Gallineaux' role as the North American LGBT manager and ambassador for Stoli Group has expanded across the United States after starting with a focus solely on Northern California. "The fact that there have always been leaders in place within Stoli who authentically support the community beyond just a desire to drive sales has always impressed me," Gallineaux said.
  • Nike Cuts Jobs, Reduces Product Lines
    Nike said Thursday it will cut about 1,400 jobs, or 2% of its workforce worldwide, as part of a new strategy to sell products more directly to customers. The company, which has 70,700 employees worldwide also plans to reduce the number of product lines by 25% and introduce more selections for the remaining lines, such as Flyknit shoes.
  • Philadelphia Soda Tax Gets Second Court Backing
    In a victory for Mayor Jim Kenney, a second court has upheld the tax. Said the mayor, "As I stated when the beverage tax was upheld in the Common Pleas Court, the children of Philadelphia are waiting for the opportunities that the tax can provide." Anti-soda tax groups had appealed an earlier decision to the Commonwealth Court, where seven judges heard arguments in April.
  • Bad Marketing To Blame For Lack Of Syrian Refugee Donations
    Though the Syrian crisis is a huge and heartbreaking story, it has translated into relatively little charitable giving. One large relief organization, GlobalGiving, found that people were three times as likely to donate to victims of the 2015 earthquake in Nepal or the 2011 Japanese tsunami as to those fleeing the war in Syria. Other refugee causes fare even worse.

    The event marks WWE's return to China following last year's show at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai. WWE Live China will be presented Sept. 17 in partnership with Live Nation. Mission Hills China, which claims to be the largest golf club in the world, is the official partner of WWE LIVE China.
  • Sprint Offers New Data Plan As Merger Rumors Swirl
    Sprint launched a new unlimited data family plan that one longtime analyst called "arguably the most aggressive promotion in the history of the U.S. wireless industry." The offer comes as speculation heats up over a Sprint and T-Mobile merger. It would give new customers a free year of unlimited data for up to five lines if they bring their own mobile phone and SIM card.
  • JetBlue Partners With Utrip For AI Trip Planning
    Travelers can go to JetBlue Vacations' site and enter their destination and travel dates in the Utrip portal. They then rate their preferences in 16 categories on a sliding scale to create a profile. Utrip's artificial intelligence algorithm puts together a suggested daily itinerary with times and maps of the recommended hotel, sites, activities and restaurants.
