• Top Tourism Destinations Include China, Hong Kong
    With 636 million foreign arrivals into the region in 2017, Asia Pacific sets a new tourism record, according to a report from the Pacific Asia Travel Association. Asia received the majority of these arrivals in 2017 with a 72% share, followed by the Americas with 24% and the Pacific with the remaining 4%. A similar distribution was seen for the additional volume of foreign arrivals generated into each region between 2016 and 2017.

    No one has ever accused Shaquille O’Neal of being shy, and his role in a new campaign from JCPenney will not change that image. O’Neal signed as exclusive style ambassador for men’s big and tall department for the national retailer in March. In his first effort under the deal, Shaq literally leads a parade to support JCPenney’s offerings for big and tall men — of which Shaq is front-and-center at 7’1”, 320-plus pounds.
  • Fitbit Finally Realizes Women Exist
    Remember how it took Apple two years to add period tracking to its Health app? Well, it’s May 2018, and Fitbit just added “female health tracking” to its iOS and Windows apps. The feature, first announced in March, lets users log data about menstrual cycles and record details about symptoms such as cramps, bloating, pimples, and murderous fits of rage. Fitbit will take the information and start making predictions about future cycles.
  • Walmart Limit Of Opioid Prescriptions Could Affect Drug Market
    Walmart is expanding its Opioid Stewardship Initiative, introducing new measures in an effort to further curb opioid abuse. The retail giant announced that it will begin limiting supplies of acute opioid prescriptions to no more than seven days, with up to a 50 morphine milligram equivalent maximum per day. The change will come into effect within the next 60 days, and will apply to all Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies.
  • Valeant Changes Name To Get Past Issues
    Valeant Pharmaceuticals is changing its name to Bausch Health Companies as it works to move beyond the issues that tarnished its reputation and caused its market value to plummet. The company, which has been working to turn itself around in recent years after facing political and regulatory scrutiny for its relationship with a mail order company and large increases to drug prices, said the switch will come in July.
  • Coffee Shop Aims To Start Convo About Mental Health
    Sip of Hope, which opened Thursday to a packed crowd that included Sen. Dick Durbin, local politicians and a number of mental health providers from around greater Chicago, is run by Hope for the Day, a Chicago charity that aims to raise awareness around suicide prevention and mental illness. All of the cafe’s proceeds will go to the charity.

    Netflix watchers and McDonald’s eaters appeared undeterred by the rise in subscription and menu costs over the past seven months, with both companies reporting strong sales growth in the first quarter. That might be good news for Amazon.com, which is hoping not to stall its own blockbuster growth with a recently announced price increase.
  • Norwegian Bliss Makes Debut In New York
    Norwegian Bliss is one of several ships that debut this spring from the shipyards. The 168,028-ton, 4,004-passenger ship from Norwegian Cruise Line arrived in New York last week. Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas and Carnival Vista are spending the summer in Europe before making their way to Florida in the fall while Celebrity Edge and Holland America ms Nieuw Statendam will also sail to Florida for the winter.

    McDonald's response to recent smack talk from Wendy's is "Speechless Thoughts" which features celebrities Charles Barkley, Gabrielle Union and John Goodman enjoying Quarter Pounders and expressing their joy by inner thoughts that are conveyed on the screen via text. The campaign supports McDonald's strategy of "cooked-right-when-ordered Quarter Pound Burgers using fresh beef in thousands of our restaurants."
  • Air Canada Challenges Love-Struck Customer
    A love-struck Michigan man has convinced Air Canada to give him free tickets to visit his Newfoundland girlfriend — if he can manage to make his campaign go viral. He asked Air Canada how many retweets it would take for free roundtrip tickets. Air Canada responded Tuesday by asking what the population of Newfoundland was — and said it would take that many. He needs 530,000 retweets; he was at 29,000 as of this morning.
