• Ikea Uses Electric Bike For Deliveries
    Ikea is using three-wheeled electric bikes with solar panels for a home delivery pilot at one of its locations in the Netherlands. Its success is prompting the company to scale up and give all its retailers around the world the chance to use the cost-effective alternative to their home delivery fleet. The Sunrider bike can accommodate roughly 90% of the Ikea product range and emits 98% less CO2 than modern diesel vans.
  • As Flu Season Rages, Tamiflu Becomes Scarce
    With the CDC reporting over 23,000 hospitalizations for influenza, The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists are reporting a shortage of oseltamivir, otherwise known as Tamiflu, in several doses by five generic manufacturers. "A reason for the shortages was not listed by the ASHP, but there are still doses available from other producers including Genentech, Ajanta, Alvogen and Strides Pharma," per Endpoints. "A hard date for when the supply will return to normal was not settled, but the ASHP report stated that Teva should be back up to capacity by the end of December."
  • Meta, Ad Council Launch Fentanyl PSA Campaign
    Meta and the Ad Council are encouraging parents to talk to their kids about the risks of Fentanyl via a PSA campaign featuring videos. "In one, a father says he is 'about to go drop the F-bomb' with his daughter," per The Wall Street Journal. "The videos will initially appear on Meta social-media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The Ad Council also aims to expand the campaign beyond Meta platforms, including with digital display ads on other websites."
  • Amazon Struggles With Plastic Packaging Pollution
    Amazon is trying to reduce its plastic pollution, but in 2021, the retailer's plastic mailers, shrinkwrap, bags and bubblewrap totaled 709 million pounds, an 18% increase from 2020. That's according to Oceana, now in its third year of crunching Amazon's packaging data. "Measured in terms of air pillows, this is enough plastic to circle the planet more than 800 times," per Sourcing Journal.

    Tabitha Brown's vegan friendly hair care products, Donna's Recipe, are coming to Ulta Beauty stores. The collection of all-natural products, which promote hair growth and retention, launched exclusively on Ulta.com on Dec. 18 and will be in all Ulta Beauty stores nationwide beginning Dec. 26. Brown, a bestselling author, has more than 4 million followers on both Instagram and TikTok.
  • Justin Bieber Trashes H&M On Instagram
    Justin Bieber took to Instagram to discourage fans from shopping at retailer H&M. The pop star denies giving the company permission to use his image on a new line of clothing. “I didn’t approve any of the merch collection that they put up at H&M.... all without my permission and approval,” Bieber wrote to his 270 million followers. “SMH I wouldn’t buy it if I were you.”
  • Nike Creates Retail Concept For Jordan Brand
    Nike has created a retail concept for its Jordan Brand called World of Flight. The 4,000-sq.-ft. store in Milan, Italy carries Jordan Brand footwear and apparel for men, women and kids, and will also boost exclusive items. The Jordan Brand makes up over 10% of Nike’s overall revenue and is one of its most important subbrands, per Chain Store Age.
  • Mondelez To Sell Gum Business Including Trident, Chiclets, Bubblicious
    Gum brands including Trident, Chiclets and Bubblicious are being sold to European gum and confectionary maker Perfetti Van Melle Group. Chicago-based snack food giant Mondelez International says the sale will allow it to focus on growth in its core categories of chocolate, biscuits and baked snacks. 
  • Starbucks Unions Strike As Negotiations Stall
    "The union organizing Starbucks workers declared a strike at dozens of stores on Friday, the latest escalation in its campaign to secure a labor contract," according to The New York Times. The strike is supposed to last three days and follows a one-day strike of about 100 weeks in November.
  • Calvin Klein Hires Former Zara Exec As Global Brand Prez
    Eva Serrano will join the company in March. "Serrano has 20 years of leadership experience with Zara and its parent company, Inditex group," according to Chain Store Age.
