• Liberty Mutual's Ads Saying Don't Text And Drive Most Effective
    A report from Ace Metrix measuring the effectiveness of 136 different car insurance ads that have run in the past year gives Liberty Mutual top grades over companies like Allstate, Esurance, Geico, and Progressive. The most effective ad in the survey-based study was Liberty Mutual's spot telling people not to text while driving, which features Oprah Winfrey. Second place was Allstate's "X the Text" ad. Liberty Mutual had three ads in top five in the survey, which uses a panel of 500 U.S. consumers.
  • Amex Launches Cardmember Deals Via Foursquare
    Amex has launched a campaign via the Foursquare location-based mobile platform that lets members sign up and link their personal credit cars to their Foursquare social accounts. The effort, which launched at SXSW, lets members who have sign up and linked up find local merchants offering special deals or discounts. The effort started in Austin, Tex. where some 60 merchants took part in the program. The SXSW program is Foursquare's first deal with a credit card program.

    The Groupon site, which does mass-emails with daily coupons, has launched a promotion with Lions Gate that offers $6 tickets to the new thriller "The Lincoln Lawyer."

    The French company has decided to publish what is says is the first un-retouched makeup ad campaign. The company's Make Up For Ever brand was the focus for the effort, which shows a model holding a camera in front of her about to take a picture of herself.
  • Major League Soccer Team Uses Topless Woman In Ad
    The Vancouver Whitecaps MLS teak has a marketing video using a model whose upper torso is covered in body paint. A spokesperson explained it was an attempt to show "The passion that soccer brings out in people." The video, which is on the Whitecaps YouTube channel, shows a skin being carefully painted so it looks like the model is wearing a Whitecaps uniform.

    "Imported From Detroit" is the centerpiece of Chrysler LLC's new ad campaign. Now, a local business is now selling clothing that bears the title "Imported From Detroit." The automaker, which unveiled the slogan in a hugely popular Super Bowl ad, wants a federal court to bar Moda Group LLC from selling the T-shirts bearing that slogan.

    "Arrested Development" cast members Will Arnett and Jason Bateman are in a new Web series touting Denny's. The series, called "Always Open," is hosted by comic David Koechner, and works as a kind of celebrity interview series held in a Denny's.
  • Online Ad Campaign Hits Back At Wisconsin Anti-Union Laws
    Former Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold's organization, Progressives United, has launched an online ad campaign that says lawmakers there are cozy with corporations. The group launched an email blast asking for small contributions to help run the campaign. The ads tell voters that six of the Republican state senators are to attend a fundraiser at a big D.C. lobbying firm just after the governor there, Scott Walker, signed his bill limiting collective bargaining by unions.
  • Energy Drink Sales Booming Along With Health Concerns
    Energy drinks like Red Bull saw a 13.3% increase in sales last year at convenience stores, beating other top-ten packaged goods categories. While the American Beverage Association says such drinks are no worse than coffee for one's health, the Barbara Crouch of Utah's poison control center says people don't gulp coffee as they do energy drinks, meaning they ingest higher concentrations of caffeine in a shorter period. A report in Pediatrics has linked caffeine in energy drinks and high blood pressure, higher alcohol consumption and addiction among young people.
