• Goodbye Cars, Back To Bikes For Suzuki
    American Suzuki Motor Corporation of Brea, Calif., is going the way of Saab in the United States, at least when it comes to cars. The company has filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California as a prelude to withdrawing from the U.S. automobile market. Suzuki plans to concentrate on its motorcycle, ATV and marine products businesses. The company sold only 2,000 passenger cars in October and said it had lost more than $95 million during the past two fiscal years, according to the bankruptcy filing.
  • Dunkin Breaks Out Holiday Flavors
    Dunkin' Donuts said participating restaurants are starting to offer such items as Gingerbread Latte, Peppermint Mocha Coffee, and Red Velvet Munchkins. The Canton, Mass., chain also said it is selling Holiday Star Donut, a star-shaped item filled with Bavarian creme and topped with green icing and white star sprinkles.

    Philips is launching a social network for pregnant moms in the UK to rival established parenting portals Mumsnet and Netmums as the business looks to boost the profile of its baby care range. The Due Date Club app connects expectant moms to one another by geographical location before matching them to others with a due date similar to their own.
  • Facebook's Sandberg Dumps $7.4 Million In Stock
    Either the ship's officers are edging toward the lifeboats or they're dropping ballast: Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and two other executives dumped millions of dollars worth of stock this week as restrictions on insider trading expired. Sandberg made about $7.44 million by selling roughly 353,000 Facebook shares on Wednesday, which leaves her with 20 million vested shares; Facebook General Counsel Theodore Ullyot and Chief Accounting Officer David Spillane also sold millions of dollars worth of shares this week, according to filings.

  • Martha Stewart Pitches Toyota Avalon
    Martha Stewart is pitching Toyota's Avalon full-sized sedan under "Martha Stewart's American Made" initiative. A Toyota spokesperson noted, "Partnering with Martha Stewart and the American Made initiative made perfect sense for us - after all, about 70% of Toyota vehicles sold in the US are built here. And, the 2013 Toyota Avalon is the perfect example of our commitment to building in America." Details were not forthcoming on how and when Toyota would join with Martha Stewart's empire of brands.

    Super Bowl XLVII may be three months off, but Doritos is giving people just two more weeks to submit entries for its "Crash the Super Bowl" activation, which will see two finalists from among thousands of submissions earn 30-second spots on CBS during the Big Game broadcast and a chance for one to work with Michael Bay on the next "Transformers" movie.
  • Burger King Testing 'BK Delivers' in Florida
    Consumers in South Florida will be able to get Burger King home delivery. A pilot program called BK Delivers launches this week at six Miami-area restaurants and will expand to 35 locations in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties by the end of this year. Delivery orders must be at least $10 and carry a service fee, usually $2. The program started in the Washington, D.C., area and grew to more than a dozen locations in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
  • Starbucks Moves Into Smaller Chinese Cities
    "We can't update that board!" said Starbucks' China chief marketing officer, Marie Han Silloway, referring to an ongoing tally of Starbucks outlets opening in China. The Seattle-based company has been in China for 13 years, with an initial presence largely in major international hubs such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Now it is expanding into smaller cities with newly robust discretionary spending.

    Levi's, RVCA and Case-Mate are among brands that have joined Ekocycle, a project from Coca-Cola, Beats by Dr Dre, New Era, Earth 911 and will.i.am aimed at educating consumers about recycling.
