Eddie Bauer is partnering with travel-tech startup Cabana to offer vans and gear for adventure enthusiasts to rent. “As part of the deal, Eddie Bauer has outfitted five Cabana vans with Bauer-branded bedding, gear and accessories,” per Chain Store Age. “Customers can start their Pacific Northwest adventure making coffee with Eddie Bauer's Stanley French Press and end it underneath the retailer’s oversized down throw.”

When the Kmart in Avenel, New Jersey closes on April 16, the number of the retailer’s U.S. locations — once well over 2,000 — will be down to three in the continental United States. “In its heyday, Kmart sold product lines endorsed by celebrities Martha Stewart and Jaclyn Smith, sponsored NASCAR auto races and was mentioned in movies,” per The Associated Press. “For a time, Kmart had a little bit of everything: You could shop for your kids’ back-to-school supplies, get your car tuned up and grab a meal without leaving the premises.”

With baseball fans returning to stadiums at 100% capacity for the entire season — the first time since 2019 — hot dog and sausage sales are expected to rebound. “Hot dogs and sausages are consistently among the most ordered food items at MLB stadiums,” per NYSportsJournalism.com. “In 2022, MLB fans will consume an estimated 19.1 million hot dogs and nearly five million sausages at games this season, according to the the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.” Per the council, the top hot dog consuming U.S. cites are Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Houston, Atlanta, Washington DC …

It may seem like the two brands have little in common, but Chick-fil-A employees sometimes emulate workers at The Ritz-Carlton. Two decades ago, the fast food company prompted employees replying to customers who thanked them by saying “my pleasure” instead of “you’re welcome.” The polite response “fits into Chick-fil-A's positioning as a chicken sandwich chain with hospitable service, along with putting flowers on tables and employees going outside to take customers' drive-thru orders while they wait in their cars,” per CNN Business.

Publix Super Markets is ending its free prescription medication program on June 1, according to fliers that the grocer distributed to customers. The medications, including amoxicillin, lisinopril, metformin and amlodipine, will now cost $7.50 for a 90-day or 14-day supply (depending on the drug), with many already covered by health insurance. The retailer debuted the program in 2007 and has dispensed well over 100 million free prescriptions.

Canada-based online car retailer Clutch has agreed to a multiyear partnership with the National Hockey League, becoming the official online pre-owned car retailer of the NHL in Canada, a new category for the league. The deal begins immediately and fans will see the Clutch brand displayed in camera-visible, virtual slot in-ice ads during all '22 Stanley Cup Playoffs and Stanley Cup Final games broadcast in Canada. Clutch also is launching a giveaway linked to the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Starbucks founder and interim CEO Howard Schutz made his dislike of unions clear during a recent town hall meeting with employees. He said companies are being “assaulted” by the “threat” of unionization and that SBWorkers United — which represents nine Starbucks locations across the country — is “an outside organization trying to take our people.” But according to union workers, Starbucks has “temporarily closed locations, overstaffed stores and sent executives around for surprise visits to stores that have been considering representation,” per Nation’s Restaurant News.

Walmart has been at least temporarily prohibited from selling its private label shoes that Vans alleges are direct knockoffs of the fashion brand’s bestsellers. The shoe company argued that the retailer has "flooded the market with cheap, low-quality, and confusingly similar shoes that harm Vans’ goodwill and reputation." In banning Walmart from selling the contested shoes, the judge in the case wrote that the similarities to Vans' stripe mark were “unmistakable,” according to Retail Dive.

A mistrial was declared in the second trial concerning the involvement of 10 poultry industry executives in an alleged price fixing scheme. Defendants included executives from Tyson Foods and Pilgrim’s Pride. A new trial is set for June 6 in response to the Department of Justice's request to retry the case for the third time. The complaint alleges the executive attempted to fix prices and rig bids for chickens sold to grocery stores and restaurants.

Kim Kardashian is hiring former “Angels” from Victoria’s Secret for an ad campaign for her Skims lingerie brand. Promotional photos for the brand’s Fits Everybody line feature Alessandra Ambrosio, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and Candice Swanepoel. Kardashian herself also appears in the campaign.
