• Magnum Leads Ice Cream Spend In Europe
    Overseas, ice cream's top 10 advertisers have spent GBP9.3m on ads, a rise of 30.7%. Production costs raise that spend immensely. Market leader Magnum has spent nearly twice as much as the rest of the top 10 combined, running two campaigns - the first for its 'Five Kisses' range; the second celebrating the brand's 25th anniversary - over the past year.
  • U.S. Postal Service To Lower Priority Rates
    Regulators in the United States have approved plans by the US Postal Service to lower its Priority Mail rates for business customers from next month - despite concerns expressed by ground shipping rivals UPS and FedEx. Retail rates for Priority Mail will increase on average 1.7% in order to maintain the Postal Service's overall rate cap.
  • Nascar Signs Comcast Division To Title Sponsorship
    Calling it an "historic agreement, Nascar today unveiled a ten-year deal that makes Comcast's Xfinity division the title sponsor of what is currently the Nationwide Series. The alliance begins in 2015 and runs through the 2024 season. The agreement also makes Xfinity an official Nascar partner in the multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) and broadband ISP categories.
  • GM Touts Midsize Trucks
    The midsize truck segment's death has been exaggerated. Yes, it has been a moribund area of the market, but with fuel economy a deal maker, automakers are bringing them back. Chevrolet is offering a new program to promote the new Colorado and sibling GMC Canyon: people can build their own. The maker is introducing its "Build Your Own" online tool for buyers who want to sift through the various options available. The tool will be made available in the coming weeks.

    On Thursday, a nationwide protest resulted in hundreds of arrests. The protests were coordinated by Fight for $15, a union-backed minimum wage and union-recognition campaign. The protests are an escalation nationwide of a civil disobedience protests organized recently in major markets like New York and Chicago. They are aimed at shaming big fast-food companies like McDonald's over low pay and irregular hours.
  • Neiman Marcus To Open First Manhattan Store
    Neiman Marcus is set to open its first-ever location in Manhattan. The 250,000-sq.-ft. three-level store, slated for a 2018 opening, will help anchor the new Hudson Yards development, a multi-use project located on the city's West Side, between 30th and 34th Streets. The 28-acre Hudson Yards, by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group, will include more than 17 million sq. ft. of commercial and residential space, as well as public open space.
  • Anti-Gun Groups Pressure Krogers With Ads
    Indiana-based gun-control group Moms Demand Action has pressed retailers to ban open carry of firearms in their stores. Kroger defers to state and local laws. But in Ohio, Kentucky and other states, the law doesn't explicitly ban the "open carry" of firearms. The new digital and print ads juxtapose people who wouldn't be allowed in Kroger (little girl with ice cream cone, boy with skateboard) with thugs carrying assault weapons.
  • Stolen Data From Home Depot, Others, Surfaces
    A massive batch of credit and debit card information that went on sale on a criminal Internet site Tuesday may be from Home Depot stores and could be linked to hackers responsible for breaches at Target and P.F. Chang's, security experts say. The credit card information was offered for sale Tuesday on an underground site that traffics in stolen financial information, journalist Brian Krebs reported on his blog, Krebsonsecurity.com.
  • NFL Stars, Partners Shine In New Marketing Season
    Peyton Manning and Richard Sherman were on opposite sides of the line during Super Bowl XLVIII, but the two men are now among the bevy of NFL players who have lined up on Madison Avenue to help usher in the 2014 season. Manning hits the air with his initial TV spot for Nationwide. Sherman is "Mama's Boy" for Campbell's Chunky.
  • Luxury Auto Sales On Fire In August
    Luxury car sales remained brisk during August as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Lexus as well as Audi all posted healthy sales increases. As it did in July, Lexus bested its German rivals for luxury sales leadership with sales increasing 10.1%. Mercedes-Benz reported record-breaking August sales volumes with 27,078 units sold, a 9.4% gain from the same month last year. Sales of BMW increased 11% in August. Cadillac, hurt by recalls, fell 15% and Acura was last.
