Dick’s Sporting Goods has debuted an experiential retail concept more than two years in the making: Dick’s House of Sport. The first location near Rochester, New York offers customers a 100,000-sq.-ft. hands-on shopping experience. “The store’s features include a 30-foot-tall rock-climbing wall, a high-tech batting cage, virtual golf-driving bays, a putting green and the retailer’s first-ever ‘House of Cleats,’ which will seasonally rotate product, with up to 350 cleats across all sports,” per Chain Store Age.

The National Hockey League’s Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award Presented by MassMutual has announced three finalists. The league is asking fans to help determine the winner. The award is given to an individual who has positively impacted his or her community, culture or society through the sport of hockey. Renee Hess founded Black Girl Hockey Club in 2018 while Kevin Hodgson’s Hockey Education Reaching Out Society works with at-risk youth. Howard Smith is co-founder of Pittsburgh Inclusion Creates Equity, which offers children of all socio-economic backgrounds the opportunity to learn how to play hockey.

Ford is revealing the 2022 Ford Maverick compact pickup truck on Tuesday, and has enlisted the help of actress Gabrielle Union, who will promote the vehicle on Instagram, Tiktok, Hulu and other social media channels. “The two pre-launch promo videos define the types of people that Ford wants to attract with the Maverick,” per Motor 1. “It’s a versatile truck that is small enough to fit into city streets but also works for outdoor adventures. The company's tagline for the pickup is ‘The truck you didn't see coming is coming.’”

Heinz Ketchup is launching a Canadian rewards program that celebrates the infamously slow pour of its product. “Teaming up with Waze and Burger King, the sauce specialists will dish out complimentary Heinz Ketchup and an Impossible Whopper to any drivers who clock in at 0.045km/h when using the GPS navigation app,” per The Drum. The promotion runs through July 4 and includes traffic-activated ads to Waze app users across Canada.

Hasbro and Reebok are partnering for a “nostalgic basketball collaboration rooted in hoop dreams.” Nerf x Reebok is a four-model retro sneaker pack featuring colorful iterations of Reebok’s Pump Omni Zone II, Kamikaze II and Kamikaze II Low, with limited quantities available June 24 exclusively for Reebok Unlocked members and on Hasbro Pulse U.S., before receiving a wider global release on June 25.

Kobe Bryant’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, is butting heads with Nike over the premature leak of a sneakers design meant to honor her husband. “As Vanessa explains it, she helped conceptualize the Mambacita sneakers for Nike,” per The Root. “But with Kobe’s estate recently severing its long-standing relationship with the athletic shoe and apparel juggernaut, the expectation was that this colorway of the Kobe 6 Protro would never see the light of day. However, greed had other plans.”

Hours after Amazon confirmed its annual Prime Day sales event will be held June 21-22, Target revealed that its “Target Deal Days” digital sale will take place June 20-22. “Unlike Prime Day, Target does not require membership in any type of paid loyalty program to participate (although consumers can register for a free 30-day trial Prime membership to shop Prime Day deals),” per Chain Store Age. “Target will offer discounts across its entire product assortment, including food and beverage for the first time. In addition, Target will offer an early 5% discount on digital gift cards from June 16-19.”

What’s next, a Tesla burger? Maybe. The automaker, which has filed a new trademark for its brand under restaurant services, is expected to expand amenities around its charging infrastructure. Tesla has been talking about going into the food industry for a few years. In 2018, CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla plans to open an “old-school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in Los Angeles.”

Amusement parks apparently are joining the restaurant industry in dealing with labor shortages. Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Point, one of the country’s largest amusement parks, announced it will close for two days a week in the coming weeks as it tries to fill staffing for the summer. “In a post on the company’s Facebook page, officials said the company is offering several incentives to potential employees that they hope will draw in enough workers to open for a full schedule,” per MLive.

The U.S. Supreme Court is leaving in place a $2.12 billion damages award to women who blamed their ovarian cancer on asbestos in Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder and other talc products. The justices turned away an appeal and upheld a Missouri state court ruling in litigation brought by 22 women whose claims were heard together in one trial. J&J, which will make a payment of $2.5 billion this month including accrued interest, said in a statement that there are unresolved legal issues that will continue to be litigated. It previously has said it faces more than 19,000 similar claims.
