• Marketing To Boomers Critical To Bottom Line
    The 80-million or so Baby Boomers in the United States are open-minded and spends more on consumer packaged goods (CPG) than any other age group. Beth Brady, global head of marketing effectiveness for Nielsen, said Boomers spend 50% of their total spend on CPG, but only 10% to 15% of advertisements are marketed to them. In five years, the demographic will control 705 of the country's disposable income, according to Brady.
  • Fiat To Launch North American Campaign
    Chrysler Group LLC's Fiat brand plans to reveal a new advertising campaign early next month, the head of the Fiat brand in North America said during an interview at the New York International Auto Show. Ads for the brand should begin airing on television during the first week of May and will be supported with digital and social media including YouTube, Tim Kuniskis, Fiat's chief in North America, said. "The absolute key to our advertising is to be different so that people remember, because we're a small brand."
  • Crocs Appoints New Marketing Chief
    Crocs Inc., known for its colorful plastic shoes, named Andy Sackmann its new CMO. Sackmann joined Crocs as VP of marketing in June 2011 and led the company's global e-commerce team, among other duties. In his new role, he will lead all aspects of Crocs' marketing; including the company's brand, advertising, consumer promotions and online communications campaigns. Before joining Crocs, Sackmann served as account director at advertising firm Crispin Porter & Bogusky.

    The University of Connecticut is no more. The university now wants to be known the way the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or the University of California in Los Angeles are known. So, henceforth it's UConn. That's part of the new branding strategy announced Thursday by the university's president, Susan Herbst, during her state-of-the university speech, calling it "one primary visual word mark for the entire institution."
  • IPad Tablets Now 30% Off At Best Buy
    Retailer Best Buy Co. is offering a 30% discount on its current stock of Apple iPad 3 tablets, a spokeswoman for the world's largest consumer electronics chain said on Wednesday. Retailers typically slash prices on products in the lead-up to a major launch of a new iPad or iPhone as a way of clearing old inventory, analysts have said.
  • BlackBerry Shutting Down BBM Music
    BlackBerry is shutting down its BBM Music service on June 2 though the company said -- via email -- that the date is "subject to change." BBM Music relies heavily on your BlackBerry social connections to make it worthwhile. The $4.99 a month service lets users download 50 tracks. To expand the library one had to invite BBM contacts to join the service as well, which nets the user access to their contacts' 50 songs.
  • Customization Key to Kids' Meals
    The Center for Science in the Public Interest has fielded a report that found 97% of the nearly 3,500 kids' meals it studied did not meet its standards for what it considers a healthful option for children. In the study, the center criticized chain restaurants for basing the majority of their kids' meals around items like chicken nuggets, French fries, macaroni and cheese, burgers or soda.
  • Porsche To Launch First Plug-In
    If this is true, the universe is contracting, the moon is made of tofu and It's raining calico cats. Get a bigger umbrella: Porsche is launching its first plug-in hybrid. While the 918 hybrid supercar is still nearly a half year away from production, Porsche will have other plug-in news for the upcoming Shanghai Motor Show - the new Panamera S E-Hybrid. Porsche wants to give buyers the best of both worlds and is promising that the plug-in package will "significantly improve" fuel economy over a comparable gas-powered Panamera.
  • In Mobile, Target, Walmart and Best Buy Score
    A survey by Prosper Insights & Analytics showed that 28.9% of mobile users have used their mobile devices to shop at Walmart, 27.7% at Target, and 22% at Best Buy. All three receive positive reviews regarding mobile shopping experience. Over 83% of mobile users who have shopped Target's mobile site rate their overall experience as either good or excellent. About 72% of those who've shopped Walmart and 69.2% of Best Buy mobile shoppers say the same.
