Wrigley's brand Skittles has confirmed that it will make its first appearance in the Super Bowl, unveiling the news with a teaser ad that hints at "awesomer" activation to come. The official partner of the NFL's campaign includes TV, Internet, such social media destinations as Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and YouTube; and on-site activation, all focusing on the brand's "Rainbow" and "awesomer" themes.

A Nike executive says that, yes, there will be a Marty McFly "Back to the Future" shoe, which has Power Laces. It will be on shelves this year. Enthusiasts of the movie will note that in "Back to the Future II," 2015 is the year in which the shoe appears. Nike has been teasing the release since 2011. That year, Nike auctioned off 1,500 pairs of the shoes with net proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

In an effort to expand its line-up and add much-needed production capacity, Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest almost $74 billion over the next four years. The move was announced barely a week after Chung Moon-koo, the chairman of the group that controls both Hyundai and Seoul-based affiliate Kia, forecast the group will see its slowest growth in a decade.

The Oak Brook, Ill., headquarters of McDonald's is down 63 positions. The layoffs, taking effect Feb. 16, are part of a $100 million cost-cutting effort, and affect workers across several departments. A second round of job cuts will come in the first quarter that will affect workers in its U.S. operations, per a spokesperson. She declined to say when those layoffs would take place or how many people would lose their jobs. McDonald's also eliminated an unspecified number of open positions.

According to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark data for the 2014 holiday period (Nov. 1 - Dec. 31), online sales and traffic, including mobile, surged. Online sales were up 13.9% from the same period in 2013. Mobile traffic accounted for 45% of all online traffic for the 2014 holiday season, an increase of 25.5% year-over-year. Mobile sales accounted for 22.6% of all online sales for the 2014 holiday season, an increase of 27.2% year-over-year.

Kia will be back in the Super Bowl for the sixth time in a row with an ad for the Sorento starring former Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan. The ad is metatext: It takes place in a talent agency where Brosnan learns about his role in the Kia Super Bowl ad. Last year Kia had Lawrence Fishburne as Morpheus in The Matrix to tout Kia as the reality behind a world of fictive auto claims.

While real athletes will be on the field in the University of Phoenix Stadium seeking to win Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, broadcast network NBC will be airing a bevy of movie commercials: "Star Wars," "The Terminator," "Avengers," "Jurassic Park/World," "Hunger Games," "Mad Max" and the latest Bond installment are all getting trailer time during the game.

It shows how even entrenched rivals can find rapprochement: the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers fans and Batman and Joker, for instance. Deborah Wahl, CMO for McDonald's U.S.A., says the campaign is part of "a brand transformation" that shifts the chain's focus "from billions served to billions heard."
