Consumers are increasingly shopping their smartphones, according to the latest Demandware Shopping Index. Globally, phones accounted for 94% of the year over year increase in e-commerce traffic, 74% of the increase in basket creation and 47% of the order growth. France and the U.S. experienced the lowest rate of tablet orders, while retailers in the U.K. are seeing the largest boost in phone orders - with 25% of all transactions coming via phone.

The Donald has bought out NBCUniversal's share of their beauty pageant joint venture, the Miss Universe Organization, and settled legal claims he had threatened after it cut their business ties following Trump's remarks about Mexican immigrants. Marketing pundit Faith Popcorn said it will endear him to his base. "Who likes Ms. Universe -- rednecks, racists, men that don't respect women, women who don't respect women, people who are living in the 1950s. Donald Trump owning it will attract that audience."

The environmental group Friends of the Earth is encouraging True Value and Ace, two supplier co-ops for locally-owned hardware stores nationwide, to stop carrying plant-care products that contain neonicotinoids, blamed for bee die-off. Stores like Home Depot and Lowe's are phasing out these products, but the co-ops haven't yet. A spokesperson for Ace said the company wants to obey the law, but want a compromise between giving customers what they want and protecting the environment.

So-Cal based surfer-style chain Quicksilver filed for bankruptcy last week, and will sell off retail assets. The Huntington Beach, Calif.-based company is closing 27 stores, including nine in California. It will hold going-out-of-business sales at the 27 locations through the end of the year. Quiksilver currently has 122 stores in the U.S., including 47 factory outlets.

The NFL and Under Armour have signed a multi-year extension of their NFL Scouting Combine deal, first enacted in 2009. The agreement means that Under Armour maintains "exclusive rights as the NFL Scouting Combine's official apparel outfitter," and also will unveil an "expanded line of officially licensed Combine apparel for consumers." The brand is also in the upcoming movie "The Martian." The main character, played by Matt Damon, wears UA gear in a spot for the film.

The long-reviled Pontiac Aztek SUV (something utility vehicle) always on the list of ugliest vehicles ever to roll off a Detroit assembly line, has crawled out of the grave, resurrected to a new life as a pre-owned star for a new generation. Proving product placement really works, the Aztek's role in AMC channel's "Breaking Bad" TV series has made it hip for Millennials. So are Dodge Magnum wagon and Chrysler Pacifica crossover, according to a study by data service Edmunds.com. Walter White, portrayed by actor Bryan Cranston, drove an Aztek during much of the show's five-year run.

In spite of rising same-store sales at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc., the company's stock plungedThursday following a disappointing second-quarter earnings report late Wednesday. The chain's stock plunged more than 13% in morning trading Thursday. That in spite of the fact that same-store sales in the second quarter rose 7.3%. Systemwide same-store sales rose 5.5% in the quarter.

The latest to focus on female power, the doll brand American Girl is touting sisterhood in a new campaign, via Publicis Seattle. The effort includes a video featuring girls of all ages doing things like playing dress up, preparing for a big game, or goofing around at a sleepover or taking a walk outside. A little girl says, "I pledge my strength to the team of girls and girlhood everywhere, and to the brilliance and bravery for which we stand."

The new Bentley Bentayga is pushing into pricing territory far beyond any SUV currently on the market. First teased in the form of a concept car more than three years ago, the new Bentley Bentayga will make its formal debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. The "fastest, most powerful, most luxurious, most exclusive SUV in the world" may convince virtually every other premium luxury brand - from Aston Martin to Lamborghini to Rolls-Royce - that they also need to add utility vehicles to their line-ups.
