    TONY PLESNER, President and Chief Operating Officer of 24/7 Real Media, is leaving the company after two years on the job. He will maintain a consulting role through the end of the year and will not be replaced. JOHN BARBERA, SVP, Chief Revenue Officer, has been promoted to President of Worldwide Media. Previously as Chief Revenue Officer, Barbera oversaw U.S. media. In his new post, he is now responsible for the company's media sales worldwide, along with media operations and affiliate relations.
  • MARY DILLON: PepsiCo's Quaker Foods & Beverages
    PepsiCo's Quaker Foods & Beverages unit realigned its marketing operations, and executives familiar with Quaker said the moves also involved layoffs. MARY DILLON, Gatorade Vice President of Product Offerings, was named Vice President of Marketing for breakfast products. Dillon assumes duties previously held by Todd Magazine, Quaker Vice President of Ready-To-Eat Cereals, and Rick Gomez, Quaker Vice President of Hot Cereals. Magazine succeeds Dillon at Gatorade. Gomez, meanwhile, was named VP-marketing for shelf-stable Tropicana products, a new post.

    Three executives in the New York office of WPP Group's Y&R Advertising have been assigned additional leadership responsibilities. The head of Y&R's New York office, ANN HAYDEN, Managing Partner in the creative department; JOHN MORRIS, Managing Partner on Colgate-Palmolive Co.'s Colgate, North America; and JOHN PARTILLA, founder and CEO of Brand Buzz, an operating unit of Y&R Advertising, as well as head of Sony Corp.'s Sony Consumer Electronics account, are joining the six-person operating committee.
  • Bates USA closes Irvine office
    The Irvine, Calif. Office of Bates USA, which a year ago had $275 million in billings and roughly 150 employees, closed Friday with 20 staffers and no clients. The decision to shut the office follows the loss of the Cordiant-owned shop's largest account, Hyundai Motor America. Earlier this year Bates lost creative and media duties on the client's corporate account, with creative going to The Richards Group in Dallas and media moving to Carat in Los Angeles. Bates relationship with the car maker officially ended Sept. 30 when its contract for the dealer portion of the account expired.

    ROBB DEFILIPPIS will be joining Deutsch as Senior Vice President, Director of Print Services. He will be responsible for all print production, traffic, art buying, and all studio services. He was most recently Vice President, Director of Print Services at BBDO, NY.
  • JOHN COSTELLO: Yahoo! Inc.
    Veteran marketing executive JOHN COSTELLO is leaving his job as Chief Global Marketing Officer at Yahoo! Inc. after less than a year to take over as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Home Depot. In a career spanning 25 years Costello began in brand management and marketing positions at Procter & Gamble Co. He later was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Pepsi-Cola USA and then moved to President and Chief Operating Officer of Nielsen Marketing Research USA. He was also past Chairman of the Association of National Advertisers.

    Also at Yahoo! Inc.: JAMES FANELLA, who was Senior Vice-President of Business and Enterprise Services, has been let go. The departure marks one of the first big moves by the company's new Chief Operating Officer, Dan Rosensweig. Steve Boom, who was heading up the European enterprise solutions business, will be assuming Fanella's duties.

    DARLENE GUDEA has joined Trade Show Executive magazine as Publisher and Editor. Gudea began her career in the trade show industry in 1978 as Managing Editor of Tradeshow Week, published by Reed Business Information. She was promoted six times and became VP/Publisher & Editor-in-Chief in December 1986. In March 2000, she joined Advanstar Communications, Santa Ana, CA as Group Publisher of the Call Center/CRM Group. In September 2001, she became Director of the Magazine Division of Hispanic Business Media, Santa Barbara, CA.

    TOBY GRAFF has been promoted to Vice President, Public Affairs, from Director, Corporate Communications at Lifetime Television. Prior to Lifetime, Graff served for more than two years as Deputy Press Secretary for then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. Previously, Graff worked on healthcare and welfare reform for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She began her political career as Assistant Press Secretary for the Clinton/Gore 1992 Presidential Campaign in the Frankfurt, Kentucky office.

    Avenue A has appointed longtime McKinsey & Company Director, ANDREW PARSONS, to its recently formed advisory board. Joining him on the board will be LOIS MILLER, Hearst Magazines Vice President of Advertising Sales and Marketing for the western region. From 1976-2000, Parsons worked at McKinsey & Company, where he most recently was a Director and Senior Partner. Since 1992, Miller has worked to raise Hearst's level of involvement with West Coast clients and ad agencies through multi-media marketing programs.
