Don’t be late to the digital media game, GCA Savvian’s Kawaja warns. But, whatever you do, don’t be early, either. “If you invest in the greatest social media play of 2017, you can pretty much write that off,†he says. More alarming? Contrary to most investments that usually retain some of their initial value, you can buy companies in the digital space, and have them be worth nothing in a year’s time, he adds. “Being too early is the same thing as being wrong,†says Kawaja. “It’s dangerous territory.†Oh, and why is digital still missing out …

Terence Kawaja, managing director, GCA Savian Advisors, brought down the house at lunch time at OMMA Global with his parody song "Madison Ave Blues," sung to the tune of "American Pie." The online privacy debate a new buzz phrase today: "Respectful engagement." Unfortunately, like so many other catchphrases, it's so vague that it could mean anything. Still, those are the words that AT&T's Greg McCastle used when asked by MediaLink's Michael Kassan how the telecom was going to approach online privacy in light of the news this weekend about Facebook. (The social networking site said late Friday that it was shuttering its controversial Beacon ad program to settle a privacy lawsuit.) McCastle acknowledged that there was "tremendous value in the data that AT&T collects across all of our screen," but added …

We're in one of the track sessions with a window on Times Square, or at least the building next to us, where there is some kind of every-changing advertisement covering one building and I can see just the bottom tip of another ginormous LED billboard for American Eagle. The streaming images, like TV or like a fire, draw the eye away from reality ...
