McDonald's Corp. named Branding Consultant LARRY LIGHT its Executive Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer. Light, the founding President and CEO of Arcature, a brand consulting firm, will report to McDonald's CEO Jack Greenberg. Prior to working at Arcature, Light was Chairman and CEO of the international division of Bates Advertising, where he served on the worldwide board. Light began his career at BBDO Worldwide where he worked his way up to EVP for Marketing and Media Services.

MOYLAN, Executive Vice President, will enable advertisers to reach their most valued customers. Moylan, who joined the company in October 2001, will continue to oversee corporate sales and marketing, research.

Struggling British advertising company Cordiant Communications Group PLC has unveiled a change of CEO. Chief Executive Michael Bungey will retire at the end of March and, as expected, be succeeded by DAVID HEARN, the New York-based CEO and chairman of Cordiant's main advertising arm, Bates Worldwide.

Showintel Networks, Inc. has hired In-Theater-Advertising Executive ANTHONY GUGLIELMO of Hampton, New Hampshire, as Director of Marketing. In his new position, Guglielmo will be responsible for expanding Showintel's presence in theater lobbies around the nation and for brand building. Most recently Guglielmo served as National Account Executive for National Cinema Network, responsible for selling accounts that had previously resisted theater advertising. From 1998 to 2000, Guglielmo was Northeast Regional Manager for Val Morgan Cinema Advertising.

Internet Web site operator Yahoo Inc. has cut about a dozen sales positions. Out of 3,500 Yahoo employees worldwide, fewer than 15 employees from the sales group were cut.

Coca-Cola Co. has hired agency veteran ESTHER LEE as Chief Creative Officer for North America, overseeing media, creative and agencies for all brands of the world's largest soft-drink company. Lee was Executive Vice President, Director of Agency Development and Director of Client Services at Deutsch before it was acquired by Interpublic, and she was a Senior Vice President at WPP's J. Walter Thompson Co. in the early 1990s.

Grey Global Group's Grey Worldwide, San Francisco, has begun laying off employees as a result of difficulties with its advertising account for Cisco Systems. About half of Grey's employees were designated to work on the Cisco account. A handful were laid off in recent days, and other waves of layoffs are anticipated, according to a number of employees.
