The AARP Bulletin has tapped JAMES TOEDTMAN as its new editor. Toedtman is a 20-year veteran of Newsday, having served as the managing editor responsible for the production of the New York City issue of the paper and later as its Washington Bureau Chief and as chief economics correspondent. Toedtman was also executive editor of the Boston Herald American and editor of the Baltimore News American.
    LookSmart has hired CHARLES THEISS as its senior vice president, business development and promoted MICHAEL GRUBB to senior vice president, technology and chief technology officer. Theiss has held senior positions at Lycos, where he ran sales, business development, and operations as a vice president. Prior to that, he was both a vice president and senior vice president at CNN. Grubb joined LookSmart in September 2002 as vice president, technology operations.
    RACHEL BAUMGARTEN has been promoted to vice president, integrated marketing at MTV. In addition, CATHERINE BALSAM-SCHWABER joined MTV Integrated Marketing in Los Angeles as senior director; CARRYL PIERRE has been named director, MTV business development; and SEAN PHILLIPS has been named director, integrated marketing for mtvU.     Draft New York tapped JULIA BOLEY to serve as senior vice president, group account director. Boley spent 12 years at Wunderman, most recently as senior vice president, group account director. While there, Boley oversaw clients such as AT&T, American Express, and Apple Computer. Just prior to joining Draft she was consulting with Ryan Partnership, working with clients such as AT&T Broadband, Cablevision, and Comcast.
    ENC Marketing & Communications has named STEPHEN MCCARNEY as senior marketing manager. His clients will include Computer Associates and Juniper Networks. Most recently, McCarney was senior marketing manager for NISH, a central nonprofit organization working with federal government customers to create jobs for people with severe disabilities through the Javits-Wagner-O’Day (JWOD) Program.
    JIM KITE joined MediaVest USA as executive vice president, director of insights, research and accountability. He succeeds MARYELLEN VINCENT who left the agency to pursue personal interests. He is responsible for developing and overseeing consumer insight tools for Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) in Canada and Latin America. Kite was previously the executive vice president, director of global research/North American research director at Universal McCann, where he developed proprietary research, insight, and non-econometric modeling planning tools.
    MICHELLE BALAZ has joined Popstar! Magazine, published by Leisure Publishing, as advertising director, national sales. She will handle sales efforts nationally. Balaz previously worked for both In Touch Weekly and Biography Magazine as Midwest ad director.
    Ryan Partnership has promoted SHARON SKOWRON to senior program manager in the agency’s Chicago office.
    DENISE ANDERMAN was named publisher of American Media’s MPH magazine. Most recently, she was the publishing director of Time 4 Media’sPopular Science Magazine.
