There are many complaints to be made about ABC's telecast last night of the 86th annual Academy Awards. But one great thing stood out amid the blend of blandness and numbing excess of it all: Nobody was played off stage during his or her acceptance speech! I have always maintained that the primary reason viewers tune in is to hear what the four honored actors and other top recipients have to say.
