Searchmetrics compared the search performance of nine British supermarket Web sites in desktop and mobile phone searches to determine the impact of Google's mobile algorithm update. Tesco.com came in as the most visible British supermarket Web site in mobile phone searches on Google UK, performing three times better than nearest rival, Asda.com, per the study released today. Google customers have begun to receive questionnaires about their experience on Google Play, and rewards for taking the time to provide the feedback. Apparently there is a project within Google to improve on improve the company's search engine in the PlayStore. The questionnaire and images were posted to Reddit, asking if if they were happy with the search results. Responses ranged from Dissatisfied to Satisfied.

Russia's biggest search engine Yandex said a draft law that would let people demand the removal of some personal information from the Internet violates constitutional freedoms. The bill would give people the right to have certain information struck from online search results. Search-engine operators would have three days to comply with requests or risk fines.

Direct traffic from a link or URL and not via such search engines, social media, or advertising determine's the brand's strength, according to Lori Goldberg. It makes sense that a higher percentage of direct traffic shows consumers are familiar with the brand and typically type it directly into a browser. She runs through other signals that will clue in marketers as to whether the direct traffic is real or bot driven.

Bing will release a weekly chart highlighting the click volume on Yahoo for ads served through Bing Ads in the U.S. The latest shows ads delivered as of June 6, 2015. The company said it continues to deliver ad clicks against more than 99% of Yahoo PC traffic and approximately 90% of mobile phone and tablet traffic. The company explains.

Baidu has acquired a majority interest in Japanese online advertising firm popIn, integrating the startup's technology into its own, reports Want China Times, though its Chinese-language newspaper Commercial Times. PopIn's technology is a service called READ that optimizes advertisements for a specific site and gauges whether each will effectively promote the product.

France’s Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés said Friday it issued a formal order for Google to apply the right to be forgotten removals to all its domain names, including google.com, not just those in Europe. The order gives Google 15 days to comply, after which the CNIL can open sanctions proceedings leading to a fine of up to $168,000, per The Wall Street Journal.
