post that the company will move to HTTPS for all users. Graham Cluley takes us through the steps needed to secure searches and activity on the site for those who don't have it and can't wait for Facebook to roll it out in their area. Cluley tells us that Facebook users can find the setting in "Account settings/Security" to enable secure browsing.

One-fourth of smart TV users recall an in-app ad and 84% responded to it, according to data from Parks Associates. The research firm said more than 50% of U.S. broadband households own at least one Internet-enabled consumer electronics device. Tablet ownership continues to grow as well. Ownership grew by 146% in the first three quarters of 2012, according to Parks Associates.

One of the most important and easily forgotten: Stay focused. Sometimes when marketers try to relate to everyone, the copy ends up talking to no one.

Bing began sending new Crawl Error Alerts to users of Bing Webmaster Tools. The Crawl Error Alerts inform marketers about issues Bing encountered during recent crawls of specific sites. Vincent Wehren runs through each of the alerts, from DNS Failures to Crawl Errors. He said it's important to set up a communications preference to receive daily emails and notifications.

After Google suggested launching a display campaigns with cost-per-thousand impression (CPM) bidding, rather than cost-per-click (CPC), John Lee tried it with some surprising results. He explains it this way: "The thought process here is that the auction process is different for CPM bidding vs. CPC. Since you aren't bidding per click, your ads will get into rotation (e.g., gaining impressions) more quickly." Once the campaign generates consistent traffic, switch to CPC bidding. Lee provides insight into the test and results, and shares his thoughts on the basic premise of the strategy.

Kevin Haley at Symantec makes some cybersecurity predictions on what marketers and consumers can expect to see in 2013. While the predictions are based on what analysts see today, they also reflect projections based on years of expertise, understanding of threat evolution, and previous cybersecurity trends. As technology becomes more advanced, so do cyberthreats, such as conflict between nations. Haley writes: "Espionage can be successful and also easily deniable when conducted online." Ransomware will become the new scareware, and mobile adware will become the norm.

Sarah Evans shares a few tips on how integrating open social collaboration helps you produce better work and improve organic search results. She starts with explaining the term "open social collaboration." The two parts -- front end and back end -- require different strategies. The front end includes everything that happens after the marketers publish the content, and the back end includes everything that happens before. Evans also describes the "retweet opportunity and the rule of 60." The rule of 60 refers to the first 60 in a tweet that appears in Google's search engine page results.
