  • Hackers Steal Movies & Shut Down Email at Sony Pictures
    A hacker group that goes by the name Guardians of Peace have hacked into the computers at Sony Pictures Entertainment. The hackers took over the studio's computers, resulting in a shut down of its email system. In addition, hackers stole digital copies of unreleased films by the studio, leaking them onto file-sharing sites.

    Email delivery platform SendGrid has raised another $20.7 million in venture capital. Bain Capital Ventures raised the C round funds, bringing the total sum raised by the company to $48 million.

    Hackers are breaking into the email accounts of corporate executives of publicly traded companies and their advisory firms to find out insider information that could help game the stock market. Online security FireEye has identified a FIN4, a group who have been participating in this illegal practice. The majority of the targets are health care or pharmaceutical companies. Nearly 100 companies have been affected.
  • Microsoft Has Acquired Acompli Email App
    Microsoft has confirmed the leak, the company has acquired email app company Acompli, in a deal whose terms were not disclosed. The Redmond, WA-based giant reportedly paid $200 million for the inbox management tool. "We're excited about what's possible as we build on the app's success and bring it together with work currently in progress by the Outlook team," wrote Rajesh Jha, VP of Outlook, on the Microsoft blog. "Our goal is to deliver fantastic cross-platform apps that support the variety of email services people use today and help them accomplish more."
