LinkedIn plans to discontinue its "Intro," tool a mobile feature that connects LinkedIn profile information into a user's mobile email application. The tool was only in effect for six months. "We are making large, long-term investments on a few big bets, and in order to make them successful, we need to concentrate on fewer things," a LinkedIn spokeswoman told re/code. "With that in mind, we've taken a look at our product offerings and made the decision to shut down Intro and Slidecast as well as older versions of our iPad and iPhone apps."

The Air Force has completed a migration to the Defense Department's enterprise email system. This includes the transfer of about 7,800 unclassified email accounts, as well as 1,300 mobile devices over a 60-day period. Prior to adopting the new system, The Air Force managed email accounts internally. The Air Force's transition follows the Army's migration to the program, which was completed last August.

The Alberta Office of the Privacy Commissioner in Canada has ruled that Moore's Industrial Service Ltd., which accessed a former employee's personal web-based email account was in violation of Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). The former employee had signed a noncompete deal when he left the company. When he quit, the employee returned a company-owned laptop, a device that he had used to access his personal web-based email while he worked for the company. his login and password details were stored on the computer and the company used the device to access his personal email account.

D S Malik, the spokesman for the finance ministry in India had his email account hacked. The hackers send out spam emails on behalf of the spokesman claiming to be in the U.K. and in need of money. "I'm in London, and urgently in need of your help. Please send me GBP1,500 to enable me to complete my activities here. I will refund you as soon as I return. Send it through Western Union Money Transfer ...," read the email, which went out to journalists. Malik issued a statement revealing the hack and telling recipients to ignore the spam email.

Personalized marketing messages are more likely to get consumers to buy this Valentine's Day, according to a new report by Adroit Digital. The company has found that 73 percent of men and 78 percent of women revealed that a personalized offer might lead them to make an additional purchase on a retailer's site or mobile app. The online survey, which included responses from 1,000 shoppers, revealed that 59 percent of consumers prefer to purchase Valentine's Day gifts online than in stores.

Teachers Pay Teachers, a small New York company that helps teachers sell successful lesson plans to other teachers, has selected cloud services company SendGrid to manage its email marketing program. SendGrid, whose clients already include Pandora, Uber, Pinterest, Foursquare and Spotify, will help the startup manage its weekly newsletters that go out to more than 2.8 million people. The site sends about 15 million emails every month to members including transaction-based emails, newsletters and member-to-member communications.

The organization says that adding this line to email communications will prohibit the collection of communication by the NSA. Florida tax collector Diane Nelson is calling for a bill that would protect property owners from having to disclose their personal email addresses which have been solicited in order to deliver property tax bills. "I could see someone - perhaps in the month of October - creating a fake website and sending fake tax bills," she told Fox News. "In speaking to the governor, when I explained that to him, he said to me, 'Diane that is consumer fraud and I will support it.'" State Rep. Ed Hooper and State Sen. Jack Latvala have agreed to sponsor the required legislation.
