The company uses data to personalize its emails including purchase data, birthdate, anniversary and zip code. Using this data, the company sends triggered messages which garner 50 percent more opens than typical messages.

New York Senator Charles Schumer does not use email. "I have never really used email, but I am getting into the new technology world," he told reporters in a press conference this week. Instead Schumer relies on in-person conversations and calls on his flip phone. He does own a tablet, but has only sent emails on it 3-4 times a year.

The House Oversight Committee has plans to subpoena former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to address her use of a private email account while in office. The Committee's Chairman Jason Chaffetz said that they would likely send a formal request to the likely Democratic presidential candidate on Friday. Earlier this week, Clinton held a press conference addressing the issue saying that she used a personal address to avoid carrying two phones.

The DOJ has revealed that Attorney General Eric Holder has used three different email addresses to conduct government business. Each address is official and sits on the @usdoj.gov domain. According to a report in The Huffington Post, Holder claims to use these different aliases to avoid spam and inbox overload, not to avoid transparency.

New York State bill drafters are working on a bill that would do away with Cuomo's recent 90-day email deletion policy. Senator Liz Krueger plans to introduce the bill which says that purging state worker emails is a risk to transparency in government. She argues that server space should not be an issue and that emails should be saved as public records.

Book publisher Penguin Random House has debuted a new website and email newsletter to help parents encourage reading among kids. The regular newsletter, which links to ReadBrightly.com, will include content from children's book authors and illustrators, as well as ideas for seasonal activities to keep kids reading.

Every week Boston ad agency Allen & Gerritsen sends out a "Clean the fridge" email to remind employees to clean out their expired meals. Recently, Mike Boston, an employee, who also happens to be a hip-hop artist, wrote a rap in the email. "Chickens go from so sad to so mad, it's so bad, Clucking 'round the ham like a nomad with no dad," read the email.

Condoleezza Rice used an official State Department email address when she held the position, one of her aides revealed this week. The aide also said that she never used a personal email for official business purposes. The revelations come as Hillary Clinton is embroiled in a scandal for using a personal email account and server when she served as Secretary of State.

Venmo, a mobile payment app, has updated the security of its app by creating a stricter authentication process along with email notifications. The app will send notification emails to users anytime their number, email address or password is changed. These confirmation alerts will be sent to their original email address as well as to the new email address. Phone verification messages, will also be sent to the new and old numbers.
