Hackers cost the average American enterprise $15 million dollars in the past year, up 19 percent from $12.7 million in 2014, according to a new report from The Ponemon Institute. About half of these losses came from denial of service attacks, malicious insiders, and malicious code associated with phishing attacks, which accounted for about half of the lost revenue, according to the 2015 Cost of Cyber Crime Study.

Hackers have reportedly accessed the email accounts of CIA Director John Brennan and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. The FBI and the Secret Service are investigating the matter after the alleged hacker told The New York Post that he accessed Brennan's AOL email account which included a security clearance application and a Comcast account associated with Johnson.

Legitimate marketing emails sent by marketers in the United States are delivered only 76 percent of the time, according to a new ReturnPath report. Brazil is the only country with a lower deliverability rate with an average of 74 percent of legitimate emails landing in the inbox. While email deliverability in the UK and Germany averages 82 percent, it is down from 87 percent and 89 percent respectively in 2014.

AT&T customer Alfred Valrie sent an email suggestion about the kind of package he'd like to purchase to the company CEO. In response he received a letter from the company's attorney explaining that they do not entertain "unsolicited offers to adopt, analyze, develop, license or purchase third-party intellectual property". The company explained that it has taken this approach to customer response in order to avoid any intellectual property lawsuits.
