• Spammers Send Fake Windows 10 Emails Claiming to Come From Microsoft
    Spammers are taking advantage of the Microsoft's latest Windows 10 release. These cyber criminals sent out spam emails announcing that they had the highly awaited software to millions of people waiting for the "Get Windows 10" app. Microsoft had promised those waiting for the update to, "Watch for your notification so that you can start your upgrade. Your notification to upgrade could come as soon as a few days or weeks." The scam emails appear to come from Microsoft but include a zip file which installs ransomware on the user's computer.
  • 83% of Retailers Sent holiday Emails Last Year: Yesmail
    Eighty-three percent of retailers sent holiday or winter-themed email marketing campaigns last year, according to a report from Yesmail. The research also revealed that 34 percent of retailers started sending holiday-inspired promotions earlier than in years past. In addition, the report also found that email volume grew 26 percent during Q3 2014, as compared to Q3 2013.
  • Feds Won't Update Archaic Email Privacy Act
    The federal government will not require federal agencies including the FBI to get a warrant in order to access the older emails of consumers when conducting investigations. Despite a popular push from citizens to update the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) which does not require a warrant to access emails that were older than six months old, the White House responded that they are not going to "endorse a single ECPA-reform bill at this time."
