Police in The Netherlands and Canada claim that they have been able to break into BlackBerry devices and read the email and encrypted data on products that are being marketed as having "military-grade security." Police were even able to access deleted messages on these so-called BlackBerry PGP devices.

Microsoft Office 365 is a one-stop shop for email records compliance, according to a new report. The study from Transvault examined 1,100 data migration projects over several years to come to its conclution. The research found that Office 365 provides the full capabilities to protect corporate messaging data including mailbox storage, archive storage, journaling and search.

A group of hackers that go by the name Crackas With Attitude has hacked into the email account of Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. The same group took credit for breaking into CIA Director John Brennan's email account back in October. The FBI has issued an alert warning government officials to beware these attacks.

Pinterest is using SparkPost APIs to change its subject lines in real time. "Notifications - email, SMS, push, etc. - is on the cusp of everyone being able to leverage a multichannel personalized engagement strategy," Seth Weisfeld from Pinterest told Venture Beat. "We don't have to use every piece of information, but just being able to cohort and use triggers goes a long way."

Yahoo has settled an email privacy class action suit for $4 million. The fee will cover the costs of lawyers, users will not receive any money. In 2013, the company as sued six times over the practice of scanning emails to deliver targeted ads.

Email services firm provider Campaign Monitor has rebuilt its platform, moving away from the drag-and-drop system. The new system includes new layouts, font colors and styles, buttons with drag-and-drop spacing and customizable business templates. Marketers can also use the platform to specify which groups to send the various versions of emails to.

Donald Trump is calling on the FBI to go after Hillary Clinton for using a private email server which she was secretary of state. The political move comes less than a month before the New Hampshire and Iowa primaries.

Spammers are circulating a malicious email claiming to come from the chatting app WhatsApp. The messages contain the subject lines : "You have obtained a voice notification", "an audio memo was missed", "a brief audio recording has been delivered" and "a short vocal recording was obtained". Users that have downloaded the contents of the email have installed malware onto their devices.

Almost a third of retailers plan to begin integrating email with other channels this year, according to a new report from Yesmail. The report based its findings on responses from 200 retailers at the National Retail Federation's 2015 Shop.org conference last fall. The research also revealed that almost half of the brands surveyed aren't even capturing emails on social media or in stores.

The Federal Trade Commission has made an embarrassing email mistake. The organization sent an email last week promoting an event but accidentally used the cc section of the email address field instead of the bcc field. The agency apologized for the error in a follow up email and said they were working to make sure this would never happen again.
