Email client Geary has released a software update for its product. The new update makes it easier for users to archive and create special folders. In addition, the service's "is:read," "is:unread:" and "is:starred" search tools have been updated, and several bugs have been fixed.

Google has formed a partnership with Salesforce to help marketers match identity based on CRM and email data. The new tool is called Marketing Cloud for Google Customer Match. It allows brands to create audience segments such as loyal customer or recent browser within the Salesforce platform and uses these attributes to target the same people in Google's search engine, Gmail and YouTube.

The inspector general's office has told a high profile federal tech department to stop connecting Slack to Google Drive due to allegations that this process could cause a data breach. The watchdog group sent out an alert last week. "Due to authorizations enabled by GSA [the General Services Administration] 18F staff, over 100 GSA Google Drives were reportedly accessible by users both inside and outside of GSA during a five month period, potentially exposing sensitive content such as personally identifiable information and contractor proprietary information," explained the recommendation.

Hollywood producers Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti have been awarded an email delivery patent. The two won the patent 9306887 B1 on April 5th from the U.S. Patent Office. "The invention relates to systems and methods for managing emails where an email server that may comprise one or more computer systems, and which may be part of an email system, receives an email addressed to a specified first user," explains the patent's abstract.

More than 71 percent of companies plan to spend more time on email production, and 86.7 percent are increasing marketing budgets this year, according to a recent study from Email on Acid. The research also revealed that 23.5 percent of marketers send more than one email a day this year and that 69.1 percent of marketers will spend 1-5 hours to develop a typical email campaign.

Congress has placed a temporary ban on the use of Yahoo emails among workers on Capitol Hill after a series of spam attacks targeting the House of Representatives. Security forces have identified an increase of attacks on the House Network using third-party, web-based mail applications such as Yahoo Mail and Gmail.

Hackers have gained access to the passwords to a number of Tumblr user's email addresses from early 2013. The email addresses affected were members of the service before Yahoo acquired the company. Yahoo is investigating the issue. "Our analysis gives us no reason to believe that this information was used to access Tumblr accounts," the Tumblr blog explained. "As a precaution, however, we will be requiring affected Tumblr users to set a new password."

Lawyers for Oracle have used an email communication of a Google employee to prove that Google knew that it was aware of and trying to build a product that was similar to Sun Microsystems' copyright. The email shows the company's intention and could end up costing Google $9 billion.

The French government is working to pass legislation that will outlaw work emails after hours. According to the bill, companies with more than 50 employees will be required to establish work and non-work hours and ban any email communications between employees during the non-work hours. The push comes after numerous studies have shown that sending emails outside of work hours increases stress.
