Security researchers at Proofpoint have identified that a large-scale ransomware campaign that is targeting US government agencies. The messages are embedded with malicious URLs. When it was first discovered in March, the emails contained a CryptFile2 ransomware and spread via exploit kits downloaded in infected files. But the hackers recently changed their strategy to include the embedded malware links.

In a presentation at the Black Hat security conference, she revealed research that showed that people often click on emails even from senders they don't know. Even experts are sometimes fooled when the email looks like it came from another sender that is known to the recipient.

New letters from the Intelligence Community's Inspector General that have been made public revealed that the FBI was asked to investigate if Hillary Clinton's private email server was compromised by a foreign government. The letters revealed that there was no evidence that "a foreign power or an agent of a foreign power," had been able to access the server that she used while serving as Secretary of State.

Instead of going through emails as they come in and constantly being distracted, he goes through yesterday's messages today. He explains that this system allows a user to know just how many emails they have to get through at a time.

President Barack Obama signed a fundraising email on behalf of Florida Senator Patrick Murphy's U.S. Senate campaign. The email supports a TV ad featuring the president in which he expresses his support for the Democratic congressman. "With all that's at stake, we need Patrick Murphy in the Senate. But he'll need your help to get there," the email reads. "Patrick stands up to Republicans on behalf of our shared values. It's why they're attacking him. They know he can win in November and help Democrats retake the Senate, and they'll spare no expense to defeat him."

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine said that Hillary Clinton will be transparent with Americans after her email controversy, explaining that she has learned her lesson. In an interview with Meet the Press, Kaine said that Clinton admits using a private email server was a mistake and that she has apologized for the matter.

Yahoo has a new patent for a new email technique that will "pre-deliver" emails before they are sent. The technology monitors how people use email to identify regular patterns in their usage. For example, if a person usually sends the same email every day at the same time, the software will prepare the send. But it will only show up in the recipient's inbox once the user pushes send.
