    The San Mateo, CA-based email marketing services firm Marketo has opened its first East Coast office in Atlanta. Right away, the company will be hiring up to 40 new employees to work in the office in engineering and sales. In addition, the company anticipates that the office will house up to 200 over the next two years. The new offices are located at 100 Tower Place in Buckhead.

    When online user ratings site Yelp got its start ten years ago, it was all about soliciting feedback via email. The recommendation engine would encourage users who were searching for a service to share their location and what they were looking for and then to share email contacts of other people in their area. Then Yelp would send an email to the provided email addresses and solicit others in the area or who expressed similar interests. The company then used the responses to help build up its database. If they didn't respond, Yelp would keep emailing.

The idea is to give users the ability to explore their own email productivity habits.
  • Gmail Now Supports Non-Latin Characters
    Google is now allowing users to Gmail users to use accented characters and non-Latin characters in their email address names. Users an now create email addresses with these characters or update their existing addresses to suit their native languages. The update is possible thanks to an update in email standards established by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) two years ago.
