Former National Security Agency security cloud expert Will Ackerly has co-founded a new company called Virtru, a company that promises to truly encrypt emails. The company has launched a product called Trusted Data Format, an email encryption tool that was designed with Ackerly's NSA experience in mind. The system is focused on transmitted secure email across major email clients, including Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook. The tool encrypts contents on a user's device then sends the communication to the recipient leaving the encryption key out of the message.

Google has finally delivered a backlog of legitimate messages that were caught in its Postini spam filter by mistake at the end of February. It took the company a week and a half to fix the issue despite getting to work on the issue right after it was discovered. "The problem with Postini Services should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support," reads a post on the Google blog. "All messages that were Quarantined as a result of this issue have now been redelivered."

The Cuban government's telecommunications monopoly has approved smartphone access to the country's nauta.cu system. The Telecommunications Enterprise of Cuba, known as ETECSA will offer the service for about $1.20 in U.S. dollars per megabyte, an excessively expensive rate. This new deal will be the first time that smartphones in Cuba have access to any data service.

Google has updated is Gmail app for iOS. The update includes a new tool that allows users to fetch mail in the background, so that new mail will be delivered to the inbox even when the app is not open. For this new feature to work, users must turn notifications off. The update also includes a new sign-in process that makes it easier to sign in across apps. Once a user has signed into the Gmail app, they will be automatically signed into Google's other iOS apps.

Email campaigns that included a coupon saw 43 percent higher revenues than emails that did not include a coupon, according to a new report from Experian. The report also revealed that emails with coupons have a 14 percent higher average open rate than emails without coupons, and 34 percent higher click through rates and 27 percent higher transaction rates than other emails.
