EBay Inc's plans to break up its eBay Enterprise business, a division that offers marketing services including email. The company has plans to either spin the division into three different companies which could be sold off or to offer it up as a public company. The news came as eBay revealed plans to layoff 7 percent of its staff across Marketplaces, PayPal and eBay Enterprise.

Eighty-five percent of marketers are satisfied with their current email marketing platform, according to a new report from G2 Crowd. The report, which ranks email vendors by market segment and customer satisfaction, also revealed that 84 percent of marketers are likely to recommend their current email vendor to others.

Bare Necessities, an e-commerce firm that sells lingerie, has partnered with Experian Marketing Services for marketing services including email. Experian will help the retailer plan, manage, execute and optimize customer communications in real time. In addition, the retailer will begin doing triggered campaigns and using personalization through the new partnership.

The Better Business Bureau has warned Gmail users to beware an email scam that claims to come from Google. The fake email tells users that they have exceeded their email limit and asks users to click on a link to buy more space. The link goes to a malicious site that is used to siphon personal data from the consumer.

Cyber criminals have stolen $600,000 from Australian businesses by posing as vendors requesting payments be sent to a new bank account via email, according to a new report from The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)'s watch dog SCAMwatch. The report revealed that 20 companies reported being victims of such scams since October. One company alone lost almost $500,000 due to the scam.

A British Volkswagen dealership made an embarrassing email mistake this week with a triggered message suggesting that the customer was dead. The email alerted the customer that his car was due for an update and was addressed to Mr Cross: DECEASED. The garage blamed the mistake on a software glitch.

Microsoft's Outlook email service has been blocked in China, following the same problem with Gmail. According to Greatfire.org, a Chinese internet monitoring group, Outlook is a victim of a "man-in-the-middle" attack which allows the organization doing the blocking to tap into the email communications being sent to and from the country without delivering them to the intended user.

The email addresses and passwords of more than 1,800 Minecraft accounts have been stolen and published online. The data allows anyone to login to the users' accounts to play online, as well as to download games.

Verizon tech experts have been working around the clock to address a flaw in its system that exposes the emails of Verizon email users. The vulnerability was discovered last week through Verizon's My Fios mobile app. The company has already issued an update which addresses the issue.

The British government has been caught reading the private emails of journalists from US and UK media sites. Emails from reporters at the BBC, Reuters, The Guardian, The New York Times, Le Monde and The Washington Post, were among these emails that were saved by GCHQ's bulk surveillance program.
