Students at the University of Central Florida were the victim of a data breach. More than 200 students reported having their debit and credit cards hacked and investigators have tracked the exposure to a piece of malware installed on a university computer. They have not confirmed how the malware got onto the computer, but spam email is a common culprit in these exposures.

Handbag firm Vera Bradley's retail stores were hacked between July 15 and Sept. 23, the company revealed. The break in exposed the personal data of customers including credit and debit card information. The company is working with law enforcement to investigate the matter.

Facebook rolled out a work place communications tool this week called Workplace. Some people have said that the tool's messaging platform for businesses will kill email. The pricing hasn't been released but it could be as low as $1 per user per month, five times cheaper than competitors' pricing.

That seems to be the case, the Associated Press reports. “Automatic email forwarding was disabled at the beginning of the month,” it writes, citing several sources. “While those who've set up forwarding in the past are unaffected, some who want to leave over recent hacking and surveillance revelations are struggling to switch to rival services.”

PHE Inc-the parent company of several adult toy and entertainment brands- has found that triggered emails are the key to success. The company recently hired email services firm Bronto to help send more automated and personalized emails. By adding automated marketing and segmentation to the emails sent by its brands BetterSex and the Sinclair Institute, the company has seen increased sales. BetterSex has seen conversion rates double and reports a 180 percent increase in net profitability, and a 35 percent increase in year-over-year email revenue.

The app is similar to Facebook and features live video streaming and messaging, but is totally separate from the user's personal account. Facebook is pitching it as an alternative to work email.
