• Nexus Mods Customer Data Exposed Online
    Nexus Mods, the largest gaming mods database online, has had the personal accounts of more than 6 million users stolen. The data from these accounts, which includes name, email address and password, were shared on the Have I Been Pwned? online service. The company has suggested that customers and told them to change their passwords.
  • TaxAct Reports That Some Customer Data May Have Been Stolen
    TaxAct, a tax preparation software firm, has revealed that hackers may have stolen the personal records and login information of about 450 customers. According to the company, TaxAct did not experience a data breach. The company believes that the criminals obtained customer name and passwords from other data breaches. The company has frozen the accounts of about 9,000 customers as a preventative measure.

    Google Adwords recently rejected an ad that targeted Gmail users whose inboxes included words such as "curvy" and/or "plus-size." The ad was rejected for "body type and personality targeting."" Google explained in a blog post, "Gmail advertising policy does not permit promotion of products and services that targets individuals with negative physical attributes such as plus size, curvy."

    The FBI has not questioned Hillary Clinton yet in the months long investigation of her use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state. Clinton revealed that she hadn't been questioned in an interview with CNN. She has turned over her private email server and as well as data from a thumb drive as part of the investigation.

    Fifty-four percent of retail marketers include social share buttons in their emails, according to a recent report from Yesmail. The research also revealed that 48 percent of retailers use social media to get people to sign up for email. In addition, the research found that 60 percent of retail marketers integrate their email and social campaigns.
  • Sony Emails PlayStation Plus Customers Membership Extension After Outage
    Sony has sent out an email push to PlayStation Plus users that were affected by a network outage earlier this month. The email is offering recipients a one-day membership extension through a redemption code. Customers have until March 31, 2016 to use the code. "The extension will be applied to the end of your current membership," explains the email. "This applies to all accounts that had an active PlayStation Plus membership on January 4, 2016."
  • Yahoo Shares Trove of User Data With Universities
    Yahoo plans to release 13.5 terabytes of user interaction data to universities. The data comes from its user's interactions with Yahoo News, Sports, Finance, Movies, and Real Estate. The information will be available to the academic research community including MIT's Computer Science and Aritificial Intelligence Lab.

    The IRS is warning senior citizens to beware a scam email that claims to come from the Social Security office. The email has the subject line, "Get Protected" and claims to talk about new features from the Social Security Administration. The email contains malware and infects the computers of those people that interact with the email.
  • BlackBerry Assures Clients That Devices Are Safe After Police Discover Insecurity in Emails
    BlackBerry says that its devices are safe after Dutch police were able to crack into the company's devices and read encrypted emails. BlackBerry devices are "secure as they have always been," the company said in a blog post. The company also revealed that it did;t have details on the police's hack but assured customers that they had nothing to worry about.
  • EBay Enterprise Marketing Solutions Acquires Affiliate Transaction
    EBay Enterprise Marketing Solutions has acquired affiliate marketing services firm AffiliateTraction, in a deal whose terms were not disclosed. The acquisition gives EBay Enterprises' customers new tools for affiliate marketing. The acquisition comes shortly after EBay Enterprises recently broke up into several divisions of marketing services. In November, EBay Enterprises sold its CRM division to email and database firm Zeta Interactive.
